In my retirement years (age 83) I have been occupying myself by cutting out 2D replicas of British and American motorcycles. I've done about 25 so far. The shapes are approximately 19" long, and are cut from 1/8" thick (11 gauge) mild steel with my small home-made CNC plasma table. I/ve cut out a few cars and other shapes, as well. Hopefully you can recognize some of them.

Recently, I've been making some hummingbirds for friends. Made 4 so far. Each one is a bit different. I usually use scrap 3/4" long bolts or any 3/4" mild steel rod. The wings are made from scrap 1/8" sheet for strength and tack welded to the body on the underside. I wish I had taken photos of all of them in the raw state, but only have one or two. After forging, I buff them down with a wire bench grinder wheel, spray them with grey primer then my wife paints them with outdoor acrylic and seals with artist's outdoor clear coat. Usually, I weld a 3 foot length of 3/8" round rod to the belly at a 45 deg. angle so they can stick them out in their gardens. On the last …

I am new to this entire life, but came across an old bench that may be of some interest. I live in Pearl River, LA, so not too far from New Orleans, and I am sure we all know the history-rich area. Someone suggested I find out who made these smiting marks. It appears to be on a kid's bench. It is wrought iron, and is definitely not of today's quality. The stars in the arches above the feet are very "Colonial" in design and the "E" and (I'm guessing it is a lower case) "t" very much appear to have been struck once. I am a former coin collector, so double die marks are usually clear. If anyone can help me identify these marks, I would GREATLY appreciate your time and effort…

I hang out at the scrap yard more than I should. I think the refrigerator motor housings are a perfect start for making heads as well as other things. I used one also to create a grill for a mini farm tractor we built.

Here is a face sculpture I made after returning home from a coelacanth fishing expedition off the coast of Papua New Guinea. They eyes are rubies found while skin diving among a school of sharks and stinging jelly fish. The nose came from a horse shoe somebody threw at me once... The teeth, well... Thank you for looking.

Play on a fishing theme. The simple one was my first. The less simple was next, then, and then. The skeletons are mild scrap and the heads n tails are sheet stainless (scrap, again)

Here's something I made for a friends retirement. He is a great fisherman and specializes in walleyes. He has a ice rod making business in his much earned spare time. Not much to it but he liked it and hung it on his shop wall and it was fun to make.

Here's a video from a guy I watch on youtube that does metal detecting and other things. He visited a blacksmith and shows up his sculpture. I missed or didn't see where in PA. he is from (I'll have to dig deeper to find out) but I thought it was a really neat sculpture and thought I would share. I like the blacksmith theme and all the parts he added including making it movable. I don't have That many wrenches lol.

I had a fun day today unpacking/moving and deciding where and how to mount/place my sculptures in the new yard. I call this thing Old Albino Eye (no offense to any albino's out there) because I evidently got a stainless steel gear in the mix. Now the new neighbors will see what moved in....

**Note: the seed for this thread was transplanted from another, much larger, garden** Not much is known at this point about Rosa sapiens. Observation of their behavior seems to suggest that they spend most of their time seated. However, they have been known to suddenly lay on their sides when threatened by strong winds or other lateral forces. It is possible that 1) this is some sort of defense mechanism the species has developed over the thousands of seconds since it's birth or 2) this particular specimen has a defect that arose around the time of its conception. The part this whimsical creature has to play in its delicate and peaceful ecosystem has been…

Forged spikes, on a textured base with the rough torch cut left mostly alone. Spikes are plug welded on from the bottom. I've done a few welded sculptures with the same spike theme, it was good to hammer one out for a change.
