Hello all, I used to have a login here but lost it and had to start over. I completed my MFA in Jewelry and Metal Art last year and wanted to share some of my work. I have been forging for about 12 years, and never really had a lot of luck bladesmithing but I have always had a fine art/sculpture background. I chose to forge pattern welded steel and weave Kevlar for my thesis portfolio which surrounds ideas of masculinity, trauma, sexuality and loss of empowerment. It’s generally conceptual work rather than functional. More images to follow. -Trevor

If this has already been posted I apologize, I searched around and didn't see anything. I discovered Thak Ironworks Youtube a while ago. He does some really great work, especially in the sculpture department. Thak started this Chess Set Challenge last year before the "rona" kicked off real good and the set was finally complete earlier this month. Definitely a bright spot of 2020. He did all the big pieces and asked for help from the community to do the pawns in the form of critters. He got some really cool entries from some talented smiths. I think my favorite pawns are "The Snake and The Sword" (Douglas Morlock), the "Octopus"(Julian Amati-Lecour…

Rebar can be a pain, but it does make good snakes. I usually use threaded rod for these, as it is much easier to work and I hate drawing out tails in 1/2 inch rebar. But the rebar scales look good. Could we see some more snakes? Files? Stainless? Textured? Whatever?

After a long flight, this arrived, and two things happened almost immediately. First it was *Thank you for the gift*, and then it was declared *Cute as a bug*. It was then put on display in the family room. I do not have possession, but I am told that I do have visiting rights. Thank You Daswulf

Got this big busted up rusty pipe wrench in a pile of scrap and wanted to try a lizard but it was such a big wrench that it had to be a dinosaur. The wrench is a Trimont so it's a Trimontasaurus. No frilled lizards here. Still working on photography. It still needs work but I'm on it. Mod edit: Size He is 24 3/4" tall by about 23" deep by about 10" wide. Roughly 36" feet nose to tail tip.

There seems to be a lot of material about how to make a ram's head and bull heads but very little about other animal heads. I find them useful for bottle opener handles, poker handles, billy lifters etc. I am often asked 'Can you make a horse's head?' and recently one visitor wanted a lion's head poker. Has anyone had any success with either of these, and are there any other animal heads which are possible to forge? How about a forum 'Show me your Animal Heads'??

Dear all, After more than a year of 'radio silence' and an IFI sabbatical, I would like to report back in this beautiful forum. Obviously I have you followed all this time and am aware of important developments and active newcomers who are happy to contribute and which certainly provide added value and enrich this forum again. As for the old acquaintance, -Jennifer what a great new building that arises and offers room for countless possibilities. -John is amazing how the 'precious' is increasingly taking shape and performing its work. -Aric, unbelievable, always working on new ideas and creations to enrich the income of a young and up-a…

Have been working on this bench for the last couple of weeks. A variety of scrap used here, but this time, not ONE rail spike!! The legs are support brackets for the running board of an old logging truck and above them I used two picks for the backrest supports. The sides and arms are mainly leaf spring sections with the scrolled eyes left on. There are two steering control arms on the bottom at each side. The back just happened to be the right size for four brake rotors and the top is one long leaf spring filled in with rings, spring shackles, hames hooks and a bike sprocket. I added the Valiant Regal badge as a bit of bling. The seat is from ironbark slabs and the …

Hi, I'm doing a single piece of balustrading in as traditional method as possible. I have some 30 x10 mm flat bar which will be scrolled at the end and will go into a sharp bend. When I'm forging this piece am I better to make the scroll, then bend or vice versa? Thanks in advance, Gareth
