ThomasPowers
I have several extendable wands with a magnet on the end for picking up nuts or bolts dropped where they are hard to get---which is pretty much the entire floor by the end of the day. Frosty
I have a couple of those, one clips in a breast pocket like a pen, the other is longer with a heavier magnet. The older I get the farther away the floor gets. Frosty The Lucky.
Scott NC
Those wands are good for pulling the jar lids out of the hot water bath when canning tomatos. One saved my bacon once when I dropped a woodruff key into a transmission I was working on.
ThomasPowers
Yup. I've found most of mine associated with mechanics tools at the scrapyard. Tongs are my "go to" as the floor recedes ever further away during the day... I may have to keep a pair in the house soon. (You know you're a Blacksmith when You find yourself picking up dirty socks from the floor using tongs.) Using magnet "wands" in the shop I find it handy to twist tie a plastic bag over the end so the magnet doesn't grow a beard...
Scott NC
I haven't reached the tongs in the house stage yet. I find those plastic pistol grip grabbers work fine for dirty socks and smashing spiders that go onto corners. They work well for grabbing high stuff too. The only thing I hate using them for is picking up pine cones but it saves the back.
