Power Hammers, Treadle Hammers, Olivers

All sizes, and types, mechanical, pneumatic, water, trip, etc No hand hammers here.

  1. Hello, I've been searching for a power hammer or forging press for a few years now! They seem to be so hard to come by. I'm ideally looking for a pilkinton 1cwt or anything similar, but I'd consider anything that moves hot steel at this point! If anyone knows of anything for sale in the UK I'd be grateful! Thanks, Tom

  2. Hello everyone! My name is Andre, I’m naturally from Brazil. I am finishing my kynion style pneumatic hammer but I’m having a low bpm problem and I don’t know what is the main cause, since I have a 250L compressor running with 15bar.. this is the compressor. My piston is kinda big, but I don’t think that it would be a problem to this compressor... it has 115mm on its base, and the arm diameter is 45mm ( don’t know if this is the right word) Ive based myself on crickets air circuit plans, but with only one roller valve ( maybe this is the problem) (This is not the pilot valve I’m using, it’s just to use as example) All of the …

    I built a Kinyon style hammer using scrounged parts. The cylinder I'm using is an Amazon Chinese .It states it needs no lubrication. What should I do, lube or not? I'm afraid I will hurt the seals if lube is not compatible with materials in the cylinder. I just got it running today and seems to work well. I know I should of got a better cylinder but was working within a budget. I was able to build this 45 pound hammer for around a thousand. Thanks for any help.

    The drip oiler on my power hammer no longer provides a reliable flow of oil . Any one have a suggestion for a specific replacement selection ?

    I fellow is selling a 25 LG for $2500. He says it's in working condition but needs a little TLC. Here is what he says about it: "In terms of what it need right away: A better clutch spring, the current spring is worn out and when you take your foot off the treadle the hammer keeps running a bit. The long term things it could use is a new pitman arm conversion, and to have the pulley sent to little giant for a rebuild service, it is not really necessary, but it would run a little smoother if that was done. I don't have any other dies, but these are in really good condition. New dies and many replacement parts are available for these hammers from li…

    Can anyone identify this material? It’s from the brake on my Massey mechanical. It is hard, it’s not rubber. I think it needs renewing. Or I might just glue some leather on top, see what happens. The hammer and a photo of the brake drum below;

  10. As some of you know, I purchased a 1 CWT Alldays and onions power hammer last year maybe around this time. I've been extremely pleased with this hammer, however I've had a ton of problems with my hammer, most are caused by my own ignorance. for example, I had put way too thick of oil in it when I first got it, and it completely crippled the hammer. for now I'm going to post some pictures and videos of the hammer for walls enjoyment and eye candy. when I have time throughout the next upcoming weeks, ill post specific photos of problems, and how I solved them. I hope I can give back and provide some value for someone out there. I received a huge outreach from people with th…

  11. Hi all. Here is my design for my power hammer (Ron Kenyon simple air hammer with Larry Zoeller modifications) die. At the moment it is just the base but i run into a little problem/dilemma. https://cad.onshape.com/documents/e3c54a90c5026613737eea49/w/3c2b0ea84d0f4dc883b1228e/e/9e5e7e7e4e0c0513d97797a9 The problem is with the dovetail. Currently i'm using a 50mm diameter, 20mm~ height, 60 degree, dovetail cutter. However, it's angle is way more steep then the angle i see on other power hammers die and bases (ram and anvil). It is very easy to use the dovetail i got since i only have to use one tool to do it and it is pretty fair and sim…

  12. I'm investigating purchase of a power hammer directly from China. I'm leaning toward a 25kg hammer with the 2 piece design. They all look like they're based on the same design but I'm sure there are quality differences between the factories. Do people here know about any factories or brands that have a reputation for being particularly good or bad? Thanks for any input.

(John N ?) -C1946- here is Miss MASSEY http://www.flickr.com/photos/41924895@N07/7727260824/ goes down alright (single), but i was hoping for multiple blows. with a good tuning i'm sure she'll be a great banger. possibly needs a good packing?

    I posted a 500# Bradley I saw up in the SF Bay Area for sale yesterday and don't see it. Was it removed for some reason? First, sales posts go in the tailgating section, Rules for posting sales are listed there Second, you got a PM about it yesterday, Third you still haven't paid for your advertisement yet, so its hidden until you do Forth if you asked in PM, this would not had been posted publicly

    I was just looking for any technical info on rubber for casting springs for a Bradley type hammer , and I have to admit , I am more baffled than before. It almost looks like industry gave up on elastomer springs. I was curious if anyone knows the original durometer of Bradley cushions? If I had a gage I would run out to the shop and check. Perhaps a tire shop could gage them for me???

    I know that treadle hammers and power hammers are better at different tasks, but for my knifemaking, I'm thinking I'll sell my treadle hammer once the power hammer build is completed. I have no idea where to price this thing. It's a commercial build, but I don't know who or where, etc. Where should I start, price wise? This is an old picture, before I tuned the springs to hold the head up like they're supposed to, and before I added bolt on die plates for a set of combo dies.

    I recently was able to visit a Navy chain making forge shop.. While I was interested in purchasing a hammer Sadly with the New shop going up the extra funds were not there.. I contacted Erie and the contact person is excellent.. Right off he offered up literature with also letting me know they fully stock parts for the Hammers.. He also shared a few other photos of pages of a monster hammer.. Anyhow, If I can ever find one of these hammers again, I'll scoop it up.. It's rare these days to find a company who stands behind their products and to still carry parts.. 26173 parts drawing steam hammer.PDF Beth Forge 1891 Steam Hammer 250000 lbs.pdf Erie Single…

    Been reading a bit as I continue to work on my Rusty hammer about various BPM rates. Help me understand if/what I'm missing. The rate is driven primarily by the reduction in the RPM of the motor by the ratio between the drive wheel and tire diameter. I'm using a 24" tire. Math says: 2" drive 1750= 145 BPM 3200=266 BPM 3" drive 1750= 218 BPM 3200= 400 BPM In addition to the max sustainable rate, there's some slip/friction/loss in the system, so that you won't necessarily get the calculated number of BPM, correct? In addition to that, you have the limiting factor of the mechanics... some machines won't physically sustain too high of a rate witho…

  22. I have a 100 pound Little Giant that I am putting back together. I bought a new spring from Little Giant.com and it is 7 1/2” long which they say is for the older machines. The one it replaces is only 7” and I cannot for the life of me get the new one compressed enough to install it. I talked to the folks at Little Giant thinking my machine might be an oddball with a 7” spring but they say it is not. It is a transition machine serial number 865 and it does not have adjustable toggles links. It does have a spring tensioner which is a big tension bolt going through the toggle arm. But even with that backed all the way out I can’t compress the spring enough. They told m…

Over the last couple of weeks I have been making some tooling to make axes in the power hammer and got to use them over the weekend, It all worked as planed untill my diesel forge burner packed up as I was doing the forge weld.
