Recently purchased a Nazel 4b, and am at a loss for foundation plans. plans are available for 3b, but none that I have found for a 4b. Mark Krause also does not have the plans. Anyone have some hidden somewhere they would care to share? Otherwise the plan is to extrapolate from 3b plans. Btw. I will be running a 4b soon! Yea!!!

I've been working on my 50lb. Little Giant. The treadle is annoyingly worn if you step on the left side it goes sideways more than down so it's hard to get any work out of the hammer. Being TBI unstable makes it hard and tiring for me to work a couple inches off the floor so I take it an hour or two at a time. Well, finally got the treadle off the hinge bolt and darned if the bolt isn't still tight in the hole. The holes in the treadle don't appear worn, certainly not egged. I had to pry darned thing off and it doesn't have enough free play to count. The tread bolt, figure 2, page 16 in the "Little Giant Powerhammer book" is not the one with the centering cones,…

Looking for information on Kuhn hammers single blow mechanism . I'm not sure how long this system was available but I do know it was available in 1992. Centaur forge and Bill Peih sold them. Any information is appreciated. I know it came on the K12/42 hammer.

My Reiter distributes the oil very unevenly on the ram. In use, one side is well oiled, on the other, it is bordering on dry. Can any of you pneumatic hammer trouble shooters think of an obvious reason for this? Thanks in advance.

Waved down a scrap metal guy the other day when I saw this in his trailer. $50 later and we were unloading at my house. It's missing a linkage rod on one side, and someone popped off the riveted oem nameplate. Other than that it seems all there and ready to rebuild. So, anyone know what I got here?

So today I decided to go back (on my Kinyon style hammer) from a two-valve control setup to a single valve up/down control. Simpler is better, right? For some reason, even though in both configurations, the controls just send air to one side or the other of the shuttle valve, when I go to a single control valve, everything just locks up. It's like it causes the shuttle to stick inside the shuttle valve, causing the ram to stick at the top or the bottom of the travel, and nothing I do (actuating the exhaust or the control valve) makes a difference. I have to release pressure on the main supply to get things to release. Luckily I have an extra valve for that. …

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfeUB3DEUrQ I was using the hammer today to make a nine star pattern welded billet and so far I am having more joy than last week when welds kept on failing i think I had my billet too big for my furnace so far Im four steps into the process and should have a 1/4 of the first star. I am using crane rail track 1080 and large bandsaw blade L6? Inspired by Alex Steel I think pattern weled steel is very aesthetically pleasing

Ok, so I'm just a beginner and this is a very crude design idea, so don't spend too much time on it. Imho, a lot of treadle hammer designs I've seen are flawed in 2 ways - the weight is brought down by the foot through the linkage - so your foot feels the hit as it bottoms out, and the springs just bring the weight back up, fighting against the blow the whole way and adding nothing to the falling weight. I then saw this video, specifically the time shown, and I had a silly thought - why push down when the spring and weight are doing the work? If stomping on the treadle did the opposite, raising the head, enough whip could create quite an effective beater - hence the …

Hi all, I am nearly done my air hammer (Kinyon design) but need a decent design for a foot pedal to control the exhaust (1/2" air hose). Could anyone offer pictures, links etc to help? I have bought the 1/4" pedal from Princess Auto in Canada (Calgary) but it is too restrictive. I was going to buy a hydraulic lever-actuated spool valve (orb 8 fittings) but I wasn't sure that was right either. I have a 1/2" ball valve on it now, but I'd need to be an octopus to run this thing without a proper foot pedal. Thanks in advance, Adam

I just recently inherited this little giant power hammer from my grandfather. It has sat unused for the past 30 plus years. It looks to be in very good condition. I couldn't find any damage cracks or broken components. Has a set on dies on it and a large hollow cone anvil that came with it as well as a swage block that weights around 150lbs maybe more. I plan on doing a refurbish rather than a full restoration. I want to convert it to a timing belt and timing pulley from mcmasterr-carr and stop using the flat fiber belting. Any information on the machine, condition concerns, advice, questions or comments are welcomed. I am young and learning so criticism is good too! …

I finished building a tire hammer , using the Clay Spencer plans , a few weeks ago . Have put enough time in using it to declare it a success . The plans ,which I followed as close as I could, were excelllent . Very concise , but containg all the info needed . I was lucky to have access to a good horizontal band saw which made getting out the parts ,precisely, much easier. I'm pretty pleased with this design . Raymond Head was a good source of more uncommon parts needed such as the spring . His email is em.forge@ gmail.com . Happy to answer questions.

I'm contemplating a power hammer build and have an idea for one that will occupy a small space. My question or thought is, how big of a hammer is minimal for a unit that relies on gravity? What weight would one need to equal the power of a hand held hammer beating on an anvil? The addition of some springs would increase the power but by itself. for a hobby type set up, to ease the torcher on ones arm, what would be minimum?

Finally safe at home in my shop. This is my first hammer so I have a lot to learn. It appears to be in good shape for an early LG. I ordered the Little Giant DVD set from Mr. Rice. Figured I'll start there before going amy farther.

I just purchased my first power hammer. It's a 50 lb. Little Giant, serial number 4456. My question is it came with a 5 hp motor. Can I use this motor with the correct pulley size or should I go smaller? I was thinking the higher hp shouldn't matter as long as I am using the right pulley size? Any help is appreciated.

Been a while since I've gotten on here. It's been a looooong winter. I'm in the process of deep-cleaning my shop, which has netted me with an immeasurable amount of hardware, solvents, grinding discs, lubricants, scrap (read: stock) - you name it. So I think I'm going to build a tire hammer. I totaled my crappy Hyundai this past November, and steel being $200 a ton here, I haven't scrapped it yet. I have a donut spare with matching hub, ready to use. Lots of aluminum to play with casting later, too. Anyways, I have a large majority of parts needed to build a tire hammer. I'm debating between either a DuPont style linkage, or a Beaudry Champion style linkage. Leaning …

Been looking at all the different designs for junkyard power hammers. Then started looking at what I have to work with, in an effort to pinch pennies where I can. I want (started) building a helve/tredel/pneumatic set up. My hammer is mostly finished except for the die holding part. It's 36" from pivot to center of the head mass, have not weighed it yet, but shooting for 50-75#. My idea is to mount a leafspring centered under the pivot and use 2 2-way air cylinders, 1 on each end, to both push and pull at the same time. I really dont think i want to go with a solenoid, but use a 4- way foot control, like a tredel. I have 4" bore cylinders, just have to decide on the strok…

I've been toying with the idea for some time and finally pulled the trigger on the build. I thought of going the scrap rout but the scrap yard I use charges prices for scrap at nearly the same cost as new. So I'm going all new stock and parts. I have to say the plans I purchased are most helpful. It's like a giant erector set. I've made a cut sheet so I could figure out how much stock to buy. Then got back to my shop and cut and numbered each piece. I do recommend this step as I just go to my bin and select the next pats to assemble. I'm going to keep track of my time and cost so It will give anyone who wants to tackle this project some perspective. I've posted t…

I have a new power hammer, and although it came with some oil it is time to buy more. The recommended oil is Chevron Rando HD 220. The issue that I am having is finding any for sale. I can find similar oils online, but not the exact oil. I am wondering how important an oil match is, and where might be a good supply source for any matching gear oil. I live in a rural area and have asked at hardware and auto parts stores (in addition to searching this site and others) but have come up empty.

Hi guys. I'm new to the forum. The vast majority of my work is in sheet metal shaping, but we occasionally have to do some forging. Anyhow , I thought you might enjoy seeing our shop-built power hammer . My dad and I finished this machine in 2008. That's Dad in the picture. After the design was nailed down, we had 580 hours in building the machine and machining the dies from S-7. It's designed for sheet metal shaping so it's built far too light for forging and that is why the working height is so high (so you can "sight" the surface of the panel you're shaping). The heaviest marterial I have shaped with it is 1/8" 304 stainless steel, but it'll move 16 ga cold ro…

Hello, I know someone that is considering selling his Little Giant 50. However it was originally a line driven machine, converted to a motor, which is on top. So the thing is like 8 feet tall and it won't fit in my shop. Does anyone know how easy it would be to get that motor on the floor so it's short enough to fit in my garage? Thanks, Nick
