  1. I completely forgot about oxygen and fire and all that xxxx I am a xxxxxxx but yeah I'll probably just take out the torch and block it with a firebrick. and one more question how do I relight a hot forge I just thought I could turn the propane back on and it would light I just got a small explosion
  2. so I got a new forge and I was just forging and I saw some fire was coming out of the second torch hole and I thought it was ok because that one wasn't on it was all good but then I went over and felt the propane valve and the piping around it was hot and I got worried that the propane on the other side of the valve would ignite so I turned it all off and now I'm here
  3. i will look ross moffett and im 15 too but you seem to know way more then I do
  4. I will just be doing knife making so small ones and some other small things
  5. so I have been doing some looking but I can't seem to find a power hammer that I could buy but with my price range I don't think I could even get a power hammer ever but I could get a press and I know I can forge weld on them for making Damascus and that is the main reason I wanted a power hammer but I don't know what is a good press like brand and price wise my price range is like 400-600 dollars and how many tons of force do I need for blacksmithing im a hobbyist.
  6. so I am just a hobbyist but I got to use a power hammer recently and it was amazing and I would love to get one but I don't have the money to buy one but I would like to make one I was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction to a manual for a smaller and cheaper one for pattern welded steel and knife and tool making.
  7. so I have been doing research and using some other hammers to find out the one I like best and I have found I like the Swedish style. I see 500 900 all the way up to 2000 gram hammers but I don't know how many pounds that is can I just google a gram to pound scale or does it mean something else when it comes to hammers.
  8. Hello, So I have been really enjoying blacksmithing to the point where I might start a shop in the next decade or so. but my real question is in ten years will blacksmithing even by a viable job anymore because with all the advances in machinery large companies could just manufacture large quantities of the same thing I would be making and the would be able to make them cheaper than mine so the normal person will see the price difference and buy the large companies products am not sure if that is what will happen I will let you guys tell me i don't know. learning to use punctuation would help
  9. I didn't realize how bad gloves could be thanks, i have much to learn
  10. hi, So I'm very new to blacksmithing and I'm having an issue. When I'm hammering sparks and bits of metal like to fly under my gloves and it burns my hands I just don't know how to stop that from happening. Is there some kind of clothing that will stop that and keep in mind I am only 14 so I cant drive and I'm on a low budget but with some guidance I can jerry reg up other things that will work the just as well.
