  1. Today me Ash n Max loaded up and went down to Sallisaw for a BBQ lunch and then to Sequoyah’s cabin museum and park, I knew he had created the Cherokee syllabary so they would have a written language but I didn’t know he had fought In The the war of 1812, John had mentioned here on the forum that he was a blacksmith awhile back and that intrigued me to go visit his homestead i Learned today that he was also a silversmith and an artist with paint the cabin was built in 1829 by Sequoyah himself and the hand dug well was dug by him aswell over a spring and had sandstone stacked around it I learned that Sequoyah disappeared down in Mexico in search…

While messing around on the interwebs I came across a gallery of blacksmith tattoos. Do a google search for "blacksmith tattoos" and click on images to see some pretty amazing examples. I am wondering if any of the folk here have any blacksmith specific ink. I do not have any ink of any sort. I have too short an attention span. I am tired of the calendar picture by the end of the month. So, something I would see for the rest of my life would get old. However, that's only me. Here is an example:

I know Thomas Powers has a wife that does spinning, Frosty & co are the 'goatkeepers'(sorry Jer it made me smile )and a few years ago when I visited Reece Nimi he and his wife had just come back from 'pickling' with friends, this intrigued me so on returning home I checked it out. What fun, so now I do pickled peppers(never having had one but could recite the rhyme) etc. I've just started to make yogurt and cheese , I've seen Interesting posts on handmade brooms here etc. So I thought it would be great to have a thread showing just what all else you interesting folk get up to :)

Recently we suffered an electrical blackout that affected our entire county because some maniacs decided to shoot up 2 electrical substations. 40k households. For us, it lasted 4 days. We were lucky as I have a generator and had gas. Others weren't so blessed... A good thing it didn't happen in freezing cold, though there are colder places. A lot of helpless people suffered. It doesn't take long to start feeling it. Please be prepared. Not trying to be chicken little or anything.

  11. What in nature are y’all thankful for? Or enjoy watching? Birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, plants, ect…? After spending every day for the last three years working for myself in an old shop next to my house in the country side, I started to notice things I never noticed before or probably never would if my life had taken the turns it did to lead me to being here all day every day, While working here every day I’ve started to pay more attention to the world around me and I’ve learned things that I find fascinating that I never would have bothered to look up otherwise, One of many observations I’ve made and then read up on we’re mud dubbers and wasps, …

Ever wonder about how an apple was designed? The seeds are at the core and are surrounded by fleshy fruit…full of nourishment and moisture, protecting the seeds and providing a care package of water and nutrition. A seed might tenderly take root in the spring and form a sprout…protected by a mulch of leaves from the parent tree until it can stand on its own against the next winter. I think people and their purposes and passion function the same general way. Lifelong passions tend to go through phases that are analogous to that of a growing tree. First is drive to accomplish something or anything. It doesn’t need to be much so long as it delivers a sense of…

It a long shot I know, but if anyone in eastern Oklahoma, western Arkansas or southern Kansas an Missouri happens to come across a 70 pound (short sugar) brand farriers anvil with turning cams on it you’d know it because it has a 1/4” deep ring worn in the horn A farrier friend of mine had it stolen outta the back of his shoeing truck, he’s been using that anvil for 20 years since he bought it new and he has grown quite attached to it, he called me up to borrow an anvil this evening so he can get through some jobs till he can run up to Norman to buy a new anvil I told him I’d pass the word on here so folks in our region will be on the lo…

Hello guys, recently a problem occured, where I wasn't able to find replacement parts for my custom made fence. Lately I started searching for the on demand metal producers, as the price is not that much bigger, and shipping is quite fast. The shop where i bought it doesn't work anymore and I cannot find any of the suppliers online. I found out about colibrisodm, which processes metal parts based on your demand even at low quantities and their AI helps to draw the part without engineering degree, but is there any other viable alternatives?

We are off Daylight Savings Time and back on Mother Natures Time as of November 1, 2015 in this area. Dark at 5:30 PM is strange. How do you still work in the shop? By the time you get home it is dark. By the time dinner is over, it seems time for bed, not a couple hours at the forge. How do you cope with the time change?

So, my CPAP mask is in two parts: a hard plastic piece that connects the straps, the hose, and the face cushion, and the cushion itself. The latter has a hard plastic center and a soft silicone rim, and every once in a while, those two decide to part ways. I keep an extra, so usually it's not an issue. Last night, however, I woke up in the small hours to the sound of a lot of air escaping the mask, and sure enough, the seam between the plastic and the silicone had let go. Aaaaaaand I'm in Boston, on the road for business, and the extra is in my bedroom at home. In the words of Charlie Brown, rats. I mentioned this in a Facebook post, and not only did a bunch of …

  24. Started by Ferdinand,

Hello everyone all over the world, Let me introduce myself: My name is Ferdinand from the Netherlands and i found a interesting hammer in Sweden. It is absolutely huge, the head is 37cm long (14,5") and the handle 90cm (35,5") and the weight is 19 kilo's (thats a wopping 42 lbs!!). The shape is almost like a old rail spike hammer, long and tapered. I am unable to find anything even remotely resembling this hammer in size. There are no markings or stamps on the hammer. Does anyone know anything about hammers in this size or shape? Maybe to set a forge weld?

  25. I am looking for mild steel drilled balls Ø3/4", with a smooth hole (not threaded) Ø3/8". I live in Québec. I traveled the Internet and only found some (I think) in exotic places. Anything in Canada, in the US some of you would know about? Thanks.
