Hello everyone. Not forge related but in the realm of our interests. Have any of you made gassifying drip oil fed rocket heaters with a heat exchanger? This will be the base and wick housing for the greenhouse heater. Super simple design. Attach legs, empty propane bottle for combustion chamber will sit on top with copper tubing running in the cross section for a heat exchanger and a chimney for exhaust. The drip feed will run down along the combustion chamber before entering and leading to the wick reservoir. The wick will be an “Argand lamp” style wick. Any critical notes, precautions or additions are welcomed. thank you

Ok so one of the barn cats had a litter of kittens. My wife decided that she wanted to bring one of them in. At least it was only one and not all 5. So we have been taking care of this kitten now for a couple weeks but have yet to come up with a name. So she has agreed to let me ask for suggestions. The cat is a male. My first suggestion was Harold but the wife dont like that. Nor does she like Catrick Stewart or Neil Catrick Harris. We had a cat named David Catslehoff though, so... Anyway any thoughts and suggestions welcome. Here he is, i dont know why the pic made his eyebrows stand out like that. They are barely noticable.

I was just browsing through another forum, a prepped site, and ran across this. Being ex military, (US Army) I love a good acronym. Someone posted this...Beware the IDIOT (incredibly dangerous internet of things). I found it about ten minutes ago but it took me that long to stop laughing.

Off an on for a few months I been Cruisen the interweb looking at various companies that offer reverse engineering services to reproduce parts gears, shafts, bearings ect.. that are no longer available, some even say they can make a new gear even if the original is worn or damaged, I’ve also looked at various foundries that offer one off castings an low run castings, an copy castings, I got curious cause there’s always someone lookin for a replacement part for a old blower, drill press, vise, forge, ect… I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried using one of these small companies to copy a part to rebuild something? Or even completely copied …

Has anybody tried to make “activated carbon” from coal? Since this really isn't about blacksmithing, I wasn't sure of the best place to post the question. Yet, I think a blacksmith might have more of a pragmatic answer than some technical geek. From what I understand, this of course requires a source of carbon, plus cooking things to high temps (approximately 1000 degrees F). I understand that the process involves a phase of high heat absent of oxygen. There are other parts of the process I don’t understand very well, but am trying to learn. I literally have a ton of coal fines and have recently become interested in filtering rain water to drink. Activ…

A month or two ago I bought a 500 gallon propane tank from a guy up the road, No pictures yet…I still need to go pick it up Lol anyways I bought it with the intentions of turning it into a wood stove for the shop, Ive done an image search but I’ve only found a few here an there, I guess most people turn them into smokers instead, (which ain’t a bad idea!) lol I’m lookin for different ideas either vertical or horizontal, I was wondering if any of y’all have ever built a shop stove outta a 500 gallon propane tank? i figured if I don’t use the giant bowl ends for the stove part, they could be giant flower pots, fire pits, quench tub, cat food …

Just listed some toys on fb marketplace and craigslist. I never list my phone # without putting it in half text half numbers. Anyway, I think it was off market place that I got a text. It mentioned the item and price. I texted back that it was still available. It went on in bad English and I started to realize it was a scam. They wanted to send me some code and verify the numbers. Don't do that! I toyed with them asking what I was selling and they never answered but wanted to send and me verify a code. I knew it was a scam and deleted their code message. Told them as much and then the true colors started coming out. Be careful out there. There …

I have some old boats I need to chunk up and get rid of. It will cost me about 1000 dollars to take them to the dump. If I cut them up I will just put them into our dumpster a bit at a time. I was getting nowhere today with a Sawzall, when a friend came by. He told how a chainsaw with a carbide chain would get the job done faster. I know they have carbide chains but will they really cut anything that comes into their path, without killing me in the process? He said they used them when he worked for the fire department. Is this one of those too good to be true things? I figured someone here would be able to refute or support his claim. I would love to get …

We adopted our downstairs cat Damascus a little better than 15 years ago. She was scheduled for the vacuum chamber the day Deb and a friend of hers Julie stopped by the shelter, they took a girl's days out a couple times a month mid week and decided to put their name on a black and gray tabby kitten. Deb and I have veto rights where pets are concerned so they gave me a call so I'd come straight home from work. We headed to the shelter for my approval and while there we took a medium hair orange tabby too. Damascus was my birthday present so I got to name them both. I named Damascus because she looks like Damascus steel sort of and I named the orange boy "Mokume Gato" for…

Has anybody ran across one of these things before? I saw one at the hospital yesterday. It kind of creeped me out. I wouldn't want one delivering my food at a cafe. Or air dropping a pizza at my front door for that matter.
