I’d swear that I posted about this somewhere else, but I cannot find the post (if it was a post) or the comment (if it was a comment). In any event, here’s a video of the forging and use of an adjustable stop to be used by woodworkers for holding their workpieces. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/16tQv9CYF4/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Good evening, all, I go through phases where I become completely obsessed with a new process or material (translation, I'm old, but still ADHD as hell). Last year it was casting again (still not over that one, but it's incredibly time consuming and I've been working 80+ hour weeks) and before that clay...as a sort of precursor to it. Lately, with this area being not as, erm, ethnically diverse as makes for good cuisine, I've been engaging in cultural appropriation and making all the Mexican foods my family can stand, tortillas from scratch, pozole, sopa de fideo, champurradas, tamales, tacos guisados, refried beans and rice of course, and every sort of salsa you can …

Quick question: I've got five or six dozen 36" lengths of 18mm (23/32") W-1 drill rod that I'm planning to take to Quad-State for my tailgating table. I've seen these listed online for anywhere from $23 to $55; I'm thinking $20 each, make me an offer for larger quantities. Does that seem reasonable, or am I leaving money on the table?

Was wondering if anyone knew how to get in touch with the owner? The web page is up, but the contact info does not work.....email just bounces back as undeliverable. I am trying to get a copy of the July through October 2001 articles on restoring a colonial type post vise by Peter Ross.

In a couple of weeks I am doing a demo at 250 year celebration for a town. The thought was to do something for kids to get an idea of blacksmith work during the time. frame. So my thought is to take my anvil and stand and have them work with modeling clay. Not crazy about having a bunch of kids banging away on my anvil but will just have to exert some serious control over them. Does anyone have a particular brand of clay that they prefer? Thanks Dick Renker

I have a good friend who's into crocheting, loom weaving, etc. I gifted her a penanular brooch and hairpins I made and she loved them. I want to make her some crochet needles for Christmas. I seached online but only came across two videos of forging them which weren't that great and a suggestion from someone to just use a file. Does anyone have experience making them and how did you do it? Filing would probably be the easier route, but I would like it to have some forge quality to it. Also, what finish do y'all think would be good for one? I'm thinking paste wax or even beeswax might leave a stain on soft materials. I wasn't sure where to post this, so I put it here. I di…

I just thought I'd let you know so my PMs wouldn't explode. . more. The 7.3 quake yesterday was more than 500 air miles from Wasilla, us. It was a big bang but really shallow, yeah 12 MILES is actually very shallow and evidently not a THRUST rupture so the area of effect was small. The tsunami warnings are automatic, they go out before reports from other seismic monitoring stations, heck before many of them even sense the shaking. The world has adopted the policy of flashing a warning immediately, more advanced centers it goes out automatically and call it off after the data is in and analyzed. It's better to have to drive back home than be caught by the wave. Tsunami war…

Hey all, I forgot to tell you guys earlier, probably because I hadn't remembered till Deb sent me an email with a dinner reservation confirmed attachment. This was our 28th anniversary. We celebrated with a fine dinner at Settler's Bar Lodge restaurant and right now I'm so full I can barely move. Chewed a sliver of ginger root which took the bloat away but I think I'll have to do it again. Anyway, I'm really feeling fine and more so I'm feeling thankful to live in a country where folks say, "dang I ate too much," so often. Deb looked at me like I'm nuts when I toasted the next 28 years. Life's good. Frosty The Lucky.

Hey Everyone! I am a college student working on a entrepreneurship project. For my project I have to come up with a business idea and test out my hypothesis in some way. I am doing a test by sending out a survey to collect data. Here is my business idea: This survey aims to collect information about possible interest in a new online store for hobbyists who specialize in metalwork, woodwork, and leatherwork. This new store will be a multi-vendor marketplace, meaning that users have the ability to sign up and both sell and buy products on this store. The goal for this market place is to offer a platform for this more focused group of craftsmen(Metalworkers, woodworker,…

I instructed Grok3 (Elon's AI assistant) to scrape iforgeiron.com and give me the burner spacing for a three burner forge that will be made from a 18" long and 12" in diameter steel tank. How did it do with the summary and recommendations?

Alright y’all I was talkin with someone the other day and the conversation turned to those old school envelopes that had the red an blue striped boarders around the edge, like you see in old movies, after some online searching I learned they were originally called air mail envelopes, Now down the rabbit hole I did some more searching an I found there’s a lot of them in different styles still to be had! some where pretty cool lookin with world maps an some were made to look aged, ect… then I got sucked into looking at fountain pens… (really cool looking but a Rhode Island Red has better penmanship then me with a regular pen so I’m not sure I need …

I think I will start my own thread of motivational music and videos I like so I don't trip up or ruin anybody elses ever again. My feelings won't get hurt if any body adds, criticises or derails. I like Johnny Horton. Whiskey River might follow. Boston. Who knows. Heres another Johny Hotron. Pure coincidence.

Maybe it is Facebook or Instagram taking over, but I miss IFI the way it used to be back in ‘10-16/18. I am grateful for the moderators and for all of those who still post regularly; it makes it feel very much like a real community, rather than a cesspool or a flexing contest like other places. I appreciate y’all letting me vent; I just loved the vibrancy and life of this forum before; I love it now a bunch too- grateful for the wisdom and knowledge sharing!!!

I'm sure most everybody knows this already but the Aurora is really raging, people are seeing bright colors and action as far south as the Mexican border. If your sky is clear tonight look North. It is overcast here of course. <sigh> Frosty The Lucky.

Good evening, I had an idea that's maybe more of a question, or vice versa; I'm not sure which. My wife collects coffee mugs, and has a slew of fancy mugs with ceramic horse appliques, krakens, sea turtles, you name it, and my cat broke a favorite (abstract dragon on a black background) whilst on a parkour rampage. With kids and cats, we go through a few, so I've been gradually getting more serious about kintsugi to repair them. If you haven't seen kintsugi, it's a Japanese lacquer technique for repairing ceramics - you file or sand the edges gently, fill with resin, and cover the surface layer with powdered metal, gold being the favorite. They're gorgeous and a rabb…

Howdy everyone sorry I haven't been super active lately I’m still trying to bounce back in between places, run a business and keep up with hauling max to all his stuff i just need a moment to vent over recent events, my grandma passed this last Thursday, she was my last grandparent on either side so we were dealing with all that and then today my hot water tank at the new house decided to blow a seem and flooded the house… I was down south worrying at the shop and Ashlee called me frantically so I shut down and sped home well over the speed limit to find inch’s of water in the floor, she had found the leak coming from the hot water tank under th…

Over the last 5 years or so, I have seen some Bow & Arrow stuff, scattered around the various Sub Forum's and thought it would be fun to have a thread for folks to post photos here of what you have. Doesn't matter if you made or bought them but stories about them would be interesting. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
