I have seen many postings and comments about McMaster-Carr, but had never had the need or drive to use them. I recently needed some round retainer steel locking pins for a project and, after driving to multiple local hardware and agrisupply stores, then surfing the web, found almost exactly what I was looking for at McMasters. I ordered them yesterday at 1400 and got them today at 1400. I chose basic rate ground for shipping, which ended up being less than flat rate with the usps. I am happier than I expected and will post pictures of the project soon.

Well I'm off to the Iron Pour over in New Mexico that is held next week. There are folk that come from Alaska (Frosty knows him) Florida, New York, California, well from all over. Just a very stimulating week making art and pouring iron on Friday. If you go to youtube and search for Jawrunner you will see a video of the pour from the past year(I'm the fat guy with a white beard and water bucket sitting on an I-beam). I think that they may have a live streaming video of the pour this year from Mesalands Community College. You may have to search for it, my wife never did find it last year, but if you find it the night shots are the best. If you have any time for thoughts an…

Has anyone thought who is going get belongings? The reason I ask this question is I recently lost a good friend. Who's hand written will is being contested. He willed everything property, farm equipment, tools, and etc to a friend, and former classmate. The family gets zero. So mine thoughts are the family should get the lion share. Last question do you have a will on file? Be safe Larry

I just finished.. the 3rd book in the series, (started em back when it was socially acceptable for my age group) basically just for the sword smithing "scene".. long story short, (get it ) I ended up on the chapter where his sword is being smithed, and was sorely dissapointed by the author's rip off of "Craft of the Japanese sword" almost exactly, he copied the processes described for the creation of a Katana in that book, down to the san mai (don't know proper term) sandwiching of the core and edge steels, and creation of hamon line. he even messed up, not knowing that the laminating of two steels was for a single edged sword, not a double edged euro sword.. anyway…

I'm happy. soon I'll be in New York for a short trip to Manhattan! I imagine I can find everything in NY so I'm wondering if you could suggest me some interesting shops/places for materials, tools, sharpening stones, of course knives, etc. etc. in Manhattan. I possibly want to spend some money in good stuff. ehehehehe moreover is it possible to carry in my shipped baggage a knife or tow when I'll fly back home? ... possibly avoiding prison

I've been away from IFI for a while, and I thought I should explain a little. Nearly a month ago, I was working, but not feeling so well: Then I had computer problems: Then, IFI was off-line for a while: And then we had.......THE ICE STORM! No power for 4 days and nights. We were lucky about the power outage.......lots of folks are just now getting their power back on! If that wasn't enough trouble, Sunday night I began to feel really BAD and had to go to the ER. To make a long story short, I had to have my heart shocked back into rythym. The doctors installed a nice new defibrillator into my chest. Left the hospital Wednesday. I got home to discover that the c…

I want to share a story of me and a dull, but mystic, knife... I went to a restaraunt, and got a usual meal, but in the end (as I'm sure most of us do:rolleyes:) I decided to look at my knife (I had pasta, and didn't need it). When I went to pick it up, my spoon went with it:o! It was as if a magnet was in the handle (a very strong magnet!). I am pretty sure there was no magnet. I even spun my spoon on its end, while it was on the knife. I did get a kick out of annoying all the waiters though (they wanted to know how I did it)! It wasn't just the spoon, I could pick up my fork too! Just thought I'd share a strange experiance!:D

This is almost unbelievable! See how all of the balls wind up in catcher cones! This incredible machine was built as a collaborative effort between the Robert M. Trammel Music Conservatory and the Sharon Wick School of Engineering at the University of Iowa. Amazingly, 97% of the machine components came from John Deere Industries and Irrigation Equipment of Bancroft, Iowa.... Yes, farm equipment! It took the team a combined 13,029 hours of set-up, alignment, calibration, and tuning before finally filming this video but as you can see it was WELL worth the effort. It is now on display in the Mathew Gerhard Alumni Hall at the University and is already slated to be donat…

I don't know if this is the best place to post this, but here it goes... I'm trying to repair an electric guitar bridge. The material is plated die cast metal. One of the threaded holes that a fine tuner bolt threads into is stripped out. What do you all recommend as the best way to fix this? I was thinking of using a JB weld type of compound in the stripped hole and drilling & tapping new threads in it. I have to keep in mind that the threads are very fine (the bolt is M3.5 X 0.6mm). The threads don't have to tolerate any large amounts of torque (the tuners are turned by finger, not with tools). Will a compound like JB weld take threads this fine? Is there…

Hy guys thanks for your thoughts over these times, I'm lucky as I dont live in the bush, lost friends houses but not friends , Dales been on a knifes edge for the last week as he lives in what we call the bush, and hopefully rain and/or the efforts of our firefighters quell this demon. Dale's been there, fought fires, (besides his forge flareups) and done his bit for the greater and I just want it known that we are with him. Thanku to our US counterparts for sendind their boys, a safe return to them all. All the best Bully

There recently was a shutdown of the forum, I think, maybe it was just my system. When it came back on it is very slow, is anyone else having trouble? When I clicked the new post tab to make this post, it took 48 seconds for this screen to come up. This seems to be the only site I visit that I'm having this trouble. How is everyone elses machines responding?
