I'm looking at picking up a smaller power hammer pretty soon, primarily for forging knives. I've looked at a few options and the Anyang 33 and Blu 65 both seem like the most appealing for my shop size and what I'm doing. The 65 is a bit on the big side for what I'm doing, but Big Blu is local to me and the price is really close, I also figured going a bit larger wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. My compressor can handle the 65 fine. Has anyone used both of these hammers and can offer some comparisons between the two? I'm particularly curious about the noise differences. I am not in a super noise sensitive area, but I do work in an attached garage and wou…

Hi all! I just moved to a new house and I have to move my 100 pouds little giant. My old shop was about 60 feet from the house and built on heavy clay soil. I went with a full blow foundation, 4 feet deep with a rubber mat (the one for cows). My wife could feel the vibrations from the hammer in the house albeit not vey hard, but she knew when the hammer was running. Now, the soil is sandy with a fair proportion of small rocks, round ones like river rocks, drains really well. The big difference is that my new shop is an old garage attached to the house. I mean right next to it. I'm planning to cut the cement floor to isulate the hammer and g…

Hey folks, My seamless drive belt on a Bradley is squealing when put under tension. It seems the glue is slowly coming off and adhering to the drive wheel making it sticky. Anyone else experience this or have thoughts? is it too loose? Thanks,

I've been searching every were, but I've never seen an automotive starter and ring gear used to power a hammer. Maybe the 200amp DC Tig welder I already have might power the starter motor and the 20ish to 1 ring gear reduction to spin in the 200 -400rpm range? Automotive starters have an over run clutch, that would be handy and It's dirt cheap compared to other options

Was wondering if anyone could shed any light on this. Is the Anyang ST company a totally different company from Anyang AFP? I'm not in the market for a power hammer, but noticed a blacksmith in the UK has become a dealer for Anyang ST hammers. If these are in fact two different companies all together, which one is the real and original? Just thought it would be good to clear this up for anyone looking to buy, might be something to look out for. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Hello! I'm wondering if anyone would be able to answer a question for me in regards to cwt. I'm currently working on a project for the South Eveleigh Locomotive Workshops down here in Australia, which was once the heart of Australia's second industrial revolution and where several hundred trains were built over the course of 100+ years. There's a number of steam hammers and presses that remain, one of which is still used in a functioning blacksmith's shop. It's a 40 cwt double arch steam hammer (since this is British imperial that makes our cwt = 112 lbs), and simply put I've been trying to understand if there's a way to calculate the force of the m…

Here is the result of 2 years imagination and a year building. It far exceeds my expectations and Im extremely happy with the machine. I will make more vids of what it can do. It expands the capabilities of a mechanical hammer and addresses the major issue I did not like about mechanicals... Height adjustments I did not enjoy doing. The configuration allows for maximum power regardless of thickness and closes the gap between a self contained and a mechanical. enjoy

Good day, I'm new to the forums but need some immediate assistance from knowledgeable gentleman. I wasn't sure where to post so here goes. I'm in the process of purchasing a power hammer of significant size, however this was not the original plan. I live in South Africa and you just don't see used hammers for sale EVER. So when I came across this hammer by accident, well I absolutely needed to have it. The seller cannot provide me with solid information, and I need to know if I should give up and abandon all hope. This hammer looks like a mounted rock crusher maybe 100 years old, hammer weight was calculated at an insane 200kg, and total weight 1300kg. I could not find an…

I was blessed by Thor (or Tubalcain) himself ! I scored a 100# Moloch power hammer in Wonderful condition. It looked rough at 1st but a little power blasting and removing the owner added guard, and now it looks the proper hammer. It was in a decrepit building in Flint, Mi that was a parts manufacturer for Buick back in the day. It was sitting under a non existent roof and partially covered. I am SO glad I was able to get her out of that tomb and into a loving shop. Yes, I'm a big guy !

Saw a picture on the net of a hammer made from a rear Differential from a car. Guy up the road had a junk one out of a 73 roadrunner and I figure why not start collecting parts. One on the net uses shock I am thinking coil-over shocks or maybe struts from a car (both can be bought used cheaply). Took 11" out of each side. T

started this project around the end of august i believe, and managed to get it done about a week ago. instead of the normal tube in a tube construction of typical tire hammer tup/guides, i went with a 45 degree dovetail guide and ram, just to keep things as compact as possible to fit in my narrow and relatively low shop. i also deviated from normal tire hammer territory in the rotating assembly and crank sections. Instead of the trailor spindle i used pillow blocks and a 1.5 inch diameter shaft, in which was mounted a hub to carry the spare tire. The crank assembly is entirely separate from the wheel and hub, keyed to the shaft and removable allowing for replacement/…

I have an opportunity to buy a friend's Anyang 88 that was damaged when his shop burned during the 2018 Camp Fire, in Paradise, Ca. The hammer was basically new when it burned. I have not had a look at it yet, but am wondering if anyone who has restored a fire-damaged air hammer has any advice. I'll post photos if I get a chance to look at it. Thanks!

This is a shop built variation of the Da Vinci cam hammer. Its been about 18 years since my full time blacksmithing/fabricator days, and 17 years since i gave it all up to sail and live on a 30ft. boat. Four years back i settled in Western Washington. Bought a nice isolated little home with a nice shop space. Built a nice little woodshop/machineshop/ weldshop. Decided to add a smithy with a tiny trip hammer. I saw some on youtube and came up with my version. The posts are black locust 6x8 and the pillowblocks are lignum vitae. Its got a 20 hammer and the anvil can be changed out for dies. While i can hand forge certain things faster, for drawing out and planishing this is…

Good morning, just curious if anyone has fixed up a 1920's 25 lb Little Giant that has been through a shop fire? Our area was burned over in NC Washington in 2015 and my LG burned, melted out all the babbit. Saved all the components except the electric motor and have it sitting a back corner of the garage for a retirement project. I had gotten it a couple of years earlier, it ran fine, had ordered new spring and dies at the time and had the repair book to tune/tweak it. It was fun to operate but a bit noisy for our place......Upon rebuilding, I bought a hydraulic press and like it but miss the LG.....we'll see what retirement and my patience brings;)…...Thanks for any …

Hello, I've been sifting through the forums for years for information and wanted to say thank you to everyone who's sharing what they know on here. As a blacksmith relatively early in his career this place is an incredibly valuable resource. Now to the situation: I have owned and operated a 50lb little giant for 6 or so years now, and it has certainly helped me along making knives and smaller sculptures. I have the funds to invest into an upgrade for my shop, and have a few options currently on the table but can't quite figure out the best move. I certainly want a heavier hammer, I'd like a 100lb if possible just as a catch all to the kind of work I do, while no…

I hope I'm in the right part of the forum. I have a belt driven Samuel Platt Goliath. Had a few days off, came in this morning, pressed the starter - belt not moving but Motor running fine then I noticed the clutch was fully engaged and I cannot seem to shift it. Don't want to be too heavy handed as it's cast iron. Any ideas please. I've added a couple of images showing front and rear.

I tried to respond to a question by tkunkel concerning a burned out 25lb LG. My computer wouldn't let me answer him in that forum, so I thought I would put it out here, and some others might get some good from the Knowledge. Years ago, I bought a 50 lb LG that was in poor shape. So I found Sid Suedmeier and his company, bought a new main shaft, found a source for Babbit, and bought a book by Richard R Kern. Do yourself a favor, and buy the book, The Little Giant Powerhammer, ISBN 1-880173-02-6. For sale on Amazon for around $50. For sale elsewhere for much more. If you are a black smith, none of the work involved in restoring the hammer should be beyo…

Just a simple question (I think), I have a Parker 2" bore X 6" Stroke cylinder that I was thinking may be OK for a Air Hammer, is that stroke too short? Since I already had that cylinder, I thought I maybe could save a few buck if it was an OK length, but don't want to build something that I am going to regret down the road. This would be used in more of a hobby shop than a full time shop. Any advice is appreciated from this "Newbie" Kevin

Good day, I have been blacksmithing on the side for about a year now. I have been able to find most of my tooling such as anvils, fullers, forge supplies, but I am wanting to upgrade my shop a bit. I would like to get some heavy machinery, a power hammer, a press, etc. That being said I am having trouble finding these tools. In the area that I live tools like that are not common. How do you guys suggest I find some of these tools at a reasonable price. I would like to get a hammer that was factory made, but it does not have to be in great shape. I can rebuild it if need be, but i don't want a homemade setup.

I rebuilt a Little Giant 50# hammer, and need to mount it on a foundation of some kind. The Little Giant specs call for a reinforced concrete block approximately 2ft by 3ft by 4ft, poured into the ground, which would weigh approximately 3600 lbs. I have a steel / lead sandwich plate that weighs approximately 2000 lbs. It would set on railroad ties to spread the load out on the ground. This would allow the hammer to be moved from place to place without a big investment of pouring a foundation and remedial work to remove it when the hammer was removed. Would the difference in weight affect the operation of the hammer? Thanks for any thoughts or experiences.
