Found this old drill. Has no mfg name cast in main frame. Only markings are C-2 main frame and C-21 feeder arm. It works, needs cleaning. No repairs.

I went out to the boonies with some folks from the local agricultural museum yesterday to pull some equipment that had been donated out of the bushes..eventually for restoration and display. Although the museum already has an excellent post drill in it's smithing shop, since there was a reasonably decent one tossed on the old farmer's "someday" pile we went ahead and loaded it with some other smalls. The notion was that I could buy it from the museum (or someone else could if they wanted). I don't keep up on prices of these so was hoping for a suggested value--remembering the museum is a non-profit and I want to be fair. It's a Champion Blower and Forge model, in …

I want to get a very high end drill press in the range of $2500 but the other part of me wonders if some kind of CNC wouldn't be better. I mostly want to drill and mill aluminum parts for robotics. I saw grizzly has really nice end mills and drill presses but they don't seem to have computers attached to them? Can you make any mill into a CNC? I'm not even sure where to start with CNC as i'm totally newb to it. Can you even get into a decent CNC under 10K? Seems like all the CNC stuff I've seen that was less expensive cut wood or plastics but wasn't powerful enough to cut non-ferrous material. Penny for your thoughts. Thanks, Av

  6. Was at a nearby flea market this weekend and this followed me home (FWIW, $50- down from $75). Its in good shape overall, but is missing the crank handle and the spindle handle on top (both should be fairly easy enough to fabricate). There's no markings of any sort that I can see, And I'm hoping the collective brain trust here might help steer me to an ID of the manufacturer, age, etc. Thanks.

I have recently taken up blacksmithing. My father passed while i was setting up my forge. A couple weeks later my uncle invited me to his house. He gave a a heavy hand crank drill press that my dad had taken from my great grandpas place when he died. I gigured it would make a cool conversation peice in my new house. When i started researching i discovered that it was a post drill for blacksmithing. Talk about fate. Lol. So i have cleaned up and got it in mostly working order. It might be antique. But i dont think i can break it. And might as well use it for what its meant for. Only problem is the threaded collar and all thread for the down feed are pretty worn. It slips …

After several attempts of drilling straight holes through my knives (with a hand drill) I've decided that I need a drill press. Lining up the pins can be kind of tedious and I just need more precision. My budget is $130. Anyone have any recommendations? There are so many to chose from and I think it would be best to hear your personal suggestions and experiences.

Hi, I have an outdoor forge under a metal shelter with a gravel floor. I need to move my Jet jdp-17mf floor-mount drill press from its present location to the forge area. Does anyone have any ideas how to set it up? If I avoid pouring a slab, what do you recommend? If I need to pour a slab, what dimensions are reasonable? --jason

Hi All, I am planning to build a "beam Drill" similar to the one depicted in Peter Nicholson's Mechanic Companion. (see the attached Picture, items D, E, and F) I am trying to learn from those who have tried making one of these and many google searches haven't revealed any modern reproductions. All search terms are pretty common and turn up the hand crank "post drill" and twist drills and auger bits.... but nothing for braces and drill for metal prior to 1860. I have found a really interesting thread on another forum... ( http://americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php?topic=18949.0 ) that was really helpful about the bits, but nothing really about the re…

  12. I'm looking for info on a drill press we have, haven't been able to find anything like it anywhere. If anyone has any info or could point me in the right direction that would be great. It in a champion blower and forge co. Post drill press, the chuck only has one bolt which makes me think it's an early model but every one I have found with the single bolt on the chuck has a roller on the ratcheting arm and this one doesn't. Thanks, jake

I recently was given a Champion blower and forge drill press model 101. It seems to be missing the handle on the one side. The ball bearing in the top seems to be worn. Can someone point me to a site or may have the tear down procedures for this model? I would like to clean it up and see if I can get it working ok. The chuck seems to be a add on and not original, currently not working correctly either. What is the best way to source parts for this model? I will try and post some other photos later.

I stopped at a junk sale today and bought a Champion post drill. Looking at some pics I think it's a #98. Everything turns as it should. It is missing the power feed lever that rides on the cam and twists the feed. It also has no chuck. The end of the spindle is square and has a hole through it about 1" from the end. I'd like to put a drill chuck on it. Any ideas on this? What are the chances of finding a lever for the advance mechanism? I'll post pics later.

I have this drill press that now needs some TLC, it has been in use for many a year and we have 'lost' all the gear markings etc. In the past it was used for a multiple of tasks These included thread tapping etc. All those that regularly used it are no longer working for me and I would like to start utilizing it more. Does anyone have one similar or can you identify it?

I was approached on Saturday evening by a friend of mine, He asked me if I needed a standing drill press. (who would say no to that? I'm still confused on why he didn't want it) And of course I said yes. As it turns out his father had passed away and he and his brother had finally started cleaning out his shop. Well his brother already had a standing drill press, and he says his bench top press is all he needs. So now I'm the proud owner of an AMT 3/4 HP 12 speed free standing drill press. I know nothing about AMT, and my internet searching has only managed to find me 1 of the same model that used to be for sale, and the rest are all older model presses. If anyone can giv…

So I have the oppurtunity to get a drill press for relatively cheap. However I also already own one and I'm not sure which is better for blacksmithing needs. I'm gonna have to use an Ask the audience lifeline for this. Maybe I just want to be able to blame a stranger on the internet incase it all goes wrong. Current drill is grade A taiwanesium. Its a cheap Nu Tool drill witha 1/4 HP motor and 13mm jacobs chuck. It isn't bad, espeacially considering it was £10 but when using it for long periods the motor gets warmer than I would like and I have to go off and do something else while it cools down and the other problem is the table tends to flex easily. The 520 and 900 RPMs…

Hi folks, I'm long overdue a drill upgrade from the small hand-me-down Naerok bench drill I've been making do with for the last couple years. I'm looking for a new single phase floor standing pillar drill and I noticed a solid looking Draper £300 machine in my local tool shop the other day. Can anyone offer me a second opinion on this and whether it's sounds any good? It will be in regular use for small/medium sized blacksmithing and fabrication work. Here's some spec highlights: Model No.: 42639 16 speed belt driven, 210-3340 r/min 16mm chuck capacity 550W motor 160mm throat Tiltling table, 260mm x 260mm Height 1620mm Weight 98kg Any general buying advice would also be…

What sort of drill bits, and where would I find them, to drill flat bottomed holes in steel? I suspect that there is some sort of machinist bit which will do this but I have never had any training in this skill and can recognize a lathe 4 out of 5 times and a milling machine 3 out of 5. 23. Hello, I'm working on getting my drill press running. The driven wheel material seems slightly hard and slippery. I haven't been able to drill with it yes to see if it is going to slip although I am fairly certain it will. Does anyone know what kind of material it is? See pictures.
