May 12, 20215 yr Lary I use them as practice for just about any blade design I'm going to do. Nothing wrong with it, people just need to understand it's not going to keep an edge no matter what they saw on TV and YouTube. Anyway that's a great design I'm gonna borrow it for a couple myself if ya don't mind.

May 12, 20215 yr Yup, that's the one; haven't seen him in a couple of years now so I can't say if he's still doing it; though I did see an add for his RR spike trowels recently.
May 13, 20215 yr I posted this back in 2015 on another RR spike thread With proper credit to the Kootenay Blacksmiths Association. I keep a print of this out in the smithy for inspiration
May 13, 20215 yr Some very cool and imaginative items but what is the thing on the far left? It looks like some sort of bowl shape on a base, possibly made of RR spikes. "By hammer and hand all arts do stand."
May 13, 20215 yr George, methinks it would make a nice birdbath. Or perhaps a large fruit bowl/centerpiece for an eccentric retiree from the railroad. Regardless of what it was intended to be.. I like it.

No problem as far as borrowing the design, I'm probably not the first. And as George N.M. has stated in another thread it's more the wow factor, it's a conversation peace, it's "Hey, that use to be a rail road spike".

Almost everybody on the planet knows what a RR spike is and being able to see it's transformation into something else recognizable is intriguing, making them an attractive product. Frosty The Lucky.
June 5, 20214 yr Neither unique or impressive, but it’s the first time I played with a RR spike so I’m very happy with it
June 7, 20214 yr (Got two fairly similar on the office side of my office door right now! I'm planning to replace them with dragon headed hooks though.)
June 7, 20214 yr Added for posterity? I've already posted these on here in another thread but I didn't see them here.

July 5, 20214 yr A friend (same one who sold me the lovely anvil) just gave me a box of spikes. The only one which matches the size I've seen talked about as a RR spike is shown here for scale. Otherwise the box is a fairly even mix of the other three types, two of which have the same 'dog head' and many of them have a letter B on the top. Any thoughts on what these are? I'm in Sweden, in case that makes a difference. Also grateful for ideas on what to make from them to get in my practice time!
July 5, 20214 yr IrondragonFCW, which model Rolling block is that? 6.5 or 7.7 Arisaka? The Trapdoors are a fun one to shoot. Norrlander - here in the States the HC marked spikes are used in the curves as they are stronger. Over where you are that may be the use for the longer dog's head one. The rest may be Logom spikes, not too little, not too much
July 5, 20214 yr It's a #1 Remington in 43 Spanish Refromado. I got it off of Gunbroker in 2009 from a seller named The Gun Doctor. Norlander - That is a good looking batch of spikes. I can imagine a lot of things could be made from them.
