Hi guys, Yesterday I was so super lucky to find an August Refflinghaus Söhne anvil of 164 KG (361 lb). I am pretty stoked about it. I just have one question. In the middle of the makersmark there is a 1. Does anyone know what this means? I have spoken with a couple of people that might knew but without any succes. I hope someone knows anything about this 1 in the middle of the stamp. Thanks Alex

Hello again, Back with another anvil. Does anyone recognise this makersmark (third picture). It looks like the anvil is from 1821 so the stamp says (fourth picture). I hope to get some more information. Thanks!

Any idea about this small anvil? I found it in Kansas... What was it used for, worth more than I paid? ($49) any other info much appreciated to

I grabbed a Kanca 50 anvil on sale as I've heard good about their vices before purchase i tested rebound with a 3/8 bearing ball and its good 80-95% at $800 i thought it wouldn't be a bad grab as I've seen no old anvils locally. brought it home and tested it with a small ballpeen starting about 4 inches and light blows there are visible marks in the face (images left large to see) and a 800G hammer was flattening the edges while taking small nicks to the face I'm trying to decide if i should return it and wait for something better or use this it is definitely forged top, 2 pieces and welded together. Base may be cast M.J.Lampert

Figured that some of you might enjoy seeing a 200kg Söderfors. The anvil is a local sale (roughly $800) to which of course I will not divulge the who or where so as not to run a foul with the moderators. A funny stand and its on wheels, which is apparently heavy as well. Cheers.

Had a customer bring a machine to the shop this morning for repair, we got to talkin bout anvils and I mentioned I’d like to find something lighter like a 50-75 pound range for a portable setup, he came back a little while later with several more machines that needed fixed up and an haybudden anvil in the truck bed, I looked it over, did a ring an rebound test and it checked out pretty good, so I asked him if he wanted to sell an he asked what I’d pay, so I told him that i usually pay by the weight and I’d have to weigh it first before making an offer, and he asked if we might just do some swappin for some repairs an I said I was fine with that, …

Hi, I just bought this “so they say” US ARMY Trenton anvil. It’s about 110lbs (50 kilo’s). There are no markings or serial numbers. Does anyone know something about this type of anvil? What would be the value? And the origin. I know Trentons where made in Ohio. This one was left behind in Belgium during the second world war I have been told. I would appreciate the imput. I have a (what I think to be) Hay Budden anvil. I’m Interested in what it may be worth. It’s been sitting in a 200 year old barn out in Millville, NJ. It’s stamped 170 (I assume Lbs) has an upside down #1 stamp under the horn.(If your looking at the horn straight on it’s under the horn on the right) has a stamp A26296 on base. Bottom of anvil is not flat. Looks like it says Brooklyn where the name would be but I can’t make it out.

Hello people! I'm about to list this anvil on kijiji and I was hoping to identify it first. The markings have been ground away. All I know is that its 100lbs. It may have come from England as well, but maybe not. Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks so much

I recently purchased a broken William Foster Anvil. It looks like its from 183...8? Question is :: I've seen hundreds of WF Anvil Pictures... I can't seem to find one with a side hole and angled indentation like mine. The indentation looks like it would make it easy to attach a clamp to your work piece and the face. ALSO : looks like an impression of a Battery... does that mean anything? Any info on what I have appreciated.

Hi, great site, I am in Australia and now own this anvil, any chance someone could date it or any info please, sure it’s 209 lbs, looks to have a 5 on the bottom edge? also, can I machine to top to level it out as it has about 8mm dips in it. cheers

Hi everyone, Recently i’ve purchased this German Anvil dating from 1927. The edges are super nice rebound is about 85/90%. It’s 275lbs. The guy who sold it to me said there should be a big S marked on it. I haven’t found it yet. It would stand for the German word “Standard” or “default” in English. Does anyone know more about these anvils. The guy still has the big brother of this anvil. Maybe I will pick this up as well since they were made together. Thanks Alex

Hello everyone. Alex here from the Netherlands. I have an anvil that has been in my shop for a long while now. However I can’t figure out what brand it is or where it is from. I have been told it could be from the Netherlands, Groningen to be exact. Does anyone know more about this anvil? I hope someone can shine a light on this. Thanks in advance. Alex

Hello , Sadly I don't know yet anything about anvils and blacksmithing but I do appreciate the craftmanship alot. So I bought an anvil from a guy in Belgium, he didn't know anything about it. I bought it cause it looks different from other anvils, it's very decorative imo so I put it in my living =). Only label I find on the anvil is AH45 ( can't even read it very well ) Can someone tell me something about it? what could be the estimated age ? what could it be worth ?? ( paid 225 euros ) greetings

So we had to empty out my wife's grandparent's old home place. I discovered numerous great old tools. I also found this anvil buried in the back under years of junk. I took a wire brush to to clean it up. As I know nothing about them I searched and found you good folks. Says M&H Armitage Mous(no E) Hole Forge, 0.3.25. Can anyone tell me anything about it? Weight? Good afternoon, I recently stumbled upon this beauty and have been cleaning off the layers of paint and neglect. So far this is what I have found for identification. I am fairly new to this community and have only followed YouTube as to cleaning her up.

I recently traded a Desmond simplex bench vise for yet another beater anvil, it’s a long story but I don’t have it here yet, I’ll get more pictures posted after it’s here , I traded for it sight unseen, I had a friend look at it and do a ring an rebound test for me, and do the trade for me an pick it up and he’s got it at his shop now I listened over the phone and the ring sounds nice, he didn’t have a ball bearing with him at the time but he said it bounced a hammer pretty well, the hardy hole will apparently need some work because someone jammed or welded a pipe in there for some reason, I don’t have a weight yet but in the picture it’s sett…

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Got this for $27 last night. I would like to know what the "box" # means, and if it's a good anvil for a brand new bladesmith to start with? At least I hope to be at minimum my own knife maker! Lol. The working surface has a wonderful ring to it. Idk how or what to do for the bounce back test?
