December 23, 20214 yr Author Again thank you for all the great advice and information. One more question about the anvil. Would it hurt anything to clean up all the rust and put a light coat of oil or something to prevent future rust on it?
December 23, 20214 yr Use a wire cup wheel on a 4" grinder to knock the heavy rust off but not a knoted wire cup wheel they tend to take more then rust off then use boiled linseed oil.
December 23, 20214 yr Wire brush and oil or a good carnuba paste wax applied to a warm anvil. I use Trewax to finish iron and steel and I have plant hangers that have been hanging on the barn for 20 years without rusting. Carnuba paste wax is the stuff used on bowling alleys, you know the wax they have to strip with drum sanders. Bowling Alley wax is another carnuba paste wax. The stuff is bullet proof. Applying HOT steel and a hammer to the face will shine her up nicely and smooth out little dings. Frosty The Lucky.
