Hi everybody, I want to start by saying that I've been reading posts here for a couple of years without joining and have found a huge amount of great information in this community. Thank you. I recently purchased some anvils and found that a several of them have a mark I haven't been able to identify, yet. Someone told me it is a Belgian maker, but I've had zero luck tracking it down. I'll try ot post a photo or two. Any super sleuths out there? Could you help me out? To me, it is not a Belgian letter (š) so I guessed Czech. Šz seems like it would be a slavic name, at least. Any idea on the history of this one? It has two HB’s stamped in it.

This old thing appears to be from 1887 and has these little stamps a few different places on it. No other marking that I can see. The big one behind it is a John Brooks. Or This one. I can't make out what this symbol is or says... I've been looking through Postman's bible. And on this forum. '

Anyone wanna help me Anvil shopping? I am on the market for a German style drop forged anvil. Things to consider: 1.Shape, 2.Ringing noise, 3.Name brand perception. Kanca VS Ridgid-Peddinghaus Note: The Peddinghaus has a slightly larger working surface all around within a half inch, and $200 more. 1.) The most clear difference is the shape where the round horn meets the face. It appears the Kanca is rounded/ blended together while rigdid has more predominant edge. Does this serve any purpose, or just aesthetics? 2.) Because im forging in a residential neighborhood, i would like to keep the ringing to the minimum since black…

I have an old trenton 200 lb anvil ser#215547. Can anyone tell me how old it is? Or is it a good one to start out with?

I have a good shape fisher 1927 black hammer anvil.. But have some questions about the markings i know it weighs close to 500lbs.. It reads fisher 1927, then has 464 and 111 stamped into it.. What are the markings and what would a estimated value be on it?

I just got this giant Hay Budden it’s stamped 428 would that be the weight? Any information would be appreciated.

Just got this 206# HB on a 290# cast base. Found another HB on one at the Fisher museum. Anyone ever see these stands before or know about HB making stands ? Here is the other one at Fisher museum.

Picked this up today. No distinct stamping but I believe it is a Fisher. Only mark is, what I believe to be, a “2”, on the rear foot. See pic. Stand for 200lbs.? Weighed it on a scale about as old as the anvil and it read 185lbs. Makes sense, give or take a few.. No ring, like a Fisher. Great rebound, like a Fisher. Shaped, like an old Fisher. Forged, not cast. See pic. I would like to know the approximate time period from any Fisher expert, and any other information about this anvil if possible. Hello all, I'm excited because I have just picked up my first 'real' anvil. It was quite cheap but has to be better than the improvised 'H' beam I have been using. It has a raised casting saying 'HEYFIELD 1CWT' and that's what it weighs. I live in Australia so maybe pretty obscure. It has an obvious casting line and doesn't appear to have a hard face-plate. It looks old "It was my grandfather's" said the vendor. It rings beautifully but has only about 50% rebound. However, right in the working area there are a few hammer marks, semi-circular divots about 1/2 to 1 mm deep. Otherwise the face is flat and quite true. What advice? Live wi…

I read a post on IFI that described this anvil as a "Swiss Army Knife" of the anvil world. It has all sorts of features not normally associated with a Blacksmiths anvil. Turning lugs, square clip horn, the large turning hole in the heel. For reasons I can't fully explain I have always been drawn to this little anvil. I have several English anvils, Mouse Hole and Wilkinson, and a couple of post anvils made of 4140. But I still wanted to give the Cavalry model a try. The Cavalry, like most of the modern farrier anvils I've looked at it is made of cast, ductile iron. It is not the soft cast iron the import ASOs are made of. Hello everyone. I was wondering if I can get some help from anyone regarding my recently acquired anvil. After reading some threads I believe I may have gotten the short end of the stick. In a nutshell I was owed a small chunk of change from a blacksmith I recently did some cabinet work for. He had issues forcing him to relocate out of state and had a outstanding balance which he offered a trade in which I agreed. A 259lb hay budden. After reading some threads I see paint is a no no, and messing with the face is another no no. Both are consistent with mine. The paint is very old and I commented on the face being so clean, he assured me it was done by himself with proper m…

I picked up my second Mousehole today, so I guess that makes me a Mousehole collector. It's in much better shape than my first one. However, after I cleaned it up (rusted and painted), I find that the rebound is only 50-60%. It felt and sounded decent with my hammer, but I didn't have my ball bearing on me when I checked it out. Upon inspection, it looks like maybe it has a new welded plate on it, but I don't know what this would look like exactly. See the pictures below. At $2.50/lb ($500 total) including a big stand, I figure it's still usable and not a bad deal. Thoughts?

Hi, i was wondering If anybody has had any experience with the lifetime warranty on the peddinghaus anvils. I just bought one thats probably 15 years old and i found a “cave in” along the side of the face of the anvil. There seems to be a cavity under the surface that has caused this. Would this fall under the warrenty or do i need a proof of purchase? Its confusing because there’s rigid peddi’s and “regular” peddi’s who do i aproach? thanks for any ideas!

Ok, if on a Peter Wright anvil the first number is in hundredweight and the second being 28 can you tell me what 106 would be? I usume 134 as the weight am I correct?

Hi there - first time post. I recently purchased a 90 pound trenton anvil with the following markings: - L91 (weight i assume? Bathroom scale puts it at 90 pounds) - U.S.A. - SOLIDWROT - A4850 I know that seems like a low digit serial number, but the more i look at the spacing and the depth of indentation, I think its correct. From the little I've found it appears to be an early anvil. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Chris
