Odo
Hi all, I just got my first real anvil from an auction today and I am trying to find out more about it. I tried using some flour to get the text to stand out a bit more and here is what I can read: Solidwrot Trenton USA 138 E A3039 Thanks in advance for any info you can provide -Odo
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Welcome to IFI... I always suggest reading this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST From what I can see your Trenton is in good shape. Have you read about not grinding, milling or welding on the hardened face? The 138 should be the weight and A3039 is the serial number. I'm sure someone with a copy of AIA (Anvils in America) will chime in with a date range it was made and other info. Might want to post more pictures too.
Black Frog
138 is the weight in pounds. This is a very early U.S.- production Trenton anvil, made by Columbus Forge & Iron Co. in Columbus OH. Serial number is from first year of production for them, 1898.
