Bluewave36
Ok sorry if I’m posting in the wrong area! I located what I was looking for but would greatly appreciate any input as to when it was made or any other facts. Best I can tell Peter Wright,England, patented an 1/15. Thank y’all in advance! Also it’s a 125lb I’m in Fort Worth Texas and I paid $
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
You have a very usable PW anvil there. Have you read about not doing any welding, grinding or milling on the thin hardened face? I don't know about the prices of anvils in the Fort Worth area but $3.60 a pound for me is a little high, not outrageous by any means though. Bluewave36
Thanks for the reply and yes sir I’ve read about what you meioned. I took a wire wheel and knocked of a very thin layer of rust. Rings incredibly and great rebound. Just curious what year it was forged. 1915 I assume? ThomasPowers
Research when the law requiring imports to list their country of origin went into effect and then it was most likely after that.
Bluewave36
Thank you Mr Powers I’ll do that and get a copy of that book I’ve read about in other posts!
Stash
The 1-0-15 stamp is not the date, but the weight as forged. That puts forged weight at 127# so your anvil lost some weight over the years. Steve
Bluewave36
Yes sir the busted shoulders definitely cost a little weight and whoever went haywire with a grinder. But it does rebound good and rings your ears like crazy. But this stump should help when I get it chained down! Thanks for the input! Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
When mounting it, if you put calking compound under the base/feet you will considerably reduce the ring. I use cheap latex calk.
