The Predator police are on the prowl looking for blacksmiths to stop and cite to add to their coffers of their little town. Last year they had 3 blacksmiths with their trailers stopped in town giving them tickets. BE FOREWARNED that 37 in their 35 zone is $185.00 !! They will stop you and write you a ticket. Remember New Rome and their police ??? North Hampton is just as bad. Be Forewarned .... Ohio Rusty ><>

I would like to visit the tailgate area also. I only have internet when we are in town, so any info would be helpful. LeeRoy

Hi all Just a heads up to let any Aussies know of the 2013 ironfest at Lithgow, (we are looking at taking a 1cwt massey in slides so as we can have a decent whack this year), Ironfest is being held in Lithgow showgrounds on April 20 and 21 there is a general admission charge to the whole event which is not all that cheap, but any blacksmiths wishing to take part can either contact through me or go to Ironfest direct. Ironfest does allow for reimbursment of costs but you have to let them know you are coming at least, there is a form to fill out, giving them and you details and allowing for them to send you performers wrist bands to allow you entry without charge. Bowie's Hammer-in has been scheduled for October 11, 12 and 13th, 2013 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Bowie has informed me that I will be the first demonstrator on Friday morning starting at 8:00 sharp. Some of you know that I won the "Best Rail Road Spike Knife" at the Batson Blade Symposium and Knife Show in 2012 for my "Steak Knife" and in 2013 for the "American Eagle". I will be demonstrating how I make these knives. There is no attendance fee, however, you are encouraged to bring something to donate to Iron In The Hat and to buy tickets. Iron In The Hat is how this event is funded. There is primitive camping on the grounds and there are hotels and motels close.

Hey IFI members. I'm going to be heading up to quad state in an F250 4-door, hauling a 12-foot enclosed trailer. I'll be leaving out on Thursday the 26th of September. I have one other rider and can fit two more comfortably. I can also haul reasonable sized items back here if you go to buy stuff. (Assuming I sell the items I haul up there. Reasonable size items do not include power hammers!) I will be more than happy to transport you back and forth to your hotel, with the understanding that we all have to work together to meet everyone's time schedules as close as possible. I will be camping on site, Finally, there will be no smoking or drinking or cussing or …

Alec will be demonstrating at the NWBA conference this weekend. This is history in the making! Alec is 15 years old from the UK. He is a talented young man with a very good understanding of forging. He was the inspiration for last years Young Smiths program and he will also be back this summer to head up this years International Young Smiths team. If you can get to the conference, you should not miss his demonstrations. I am unable to attend, so I hope someone can report on this and share some pics of this event.

The Blacksmiths Guild of the Potomac's annual "Spring fling" this past weekend was a whole lot of fun. The three day event in Berryville,VA included demos from Colonial Williamsburg Blacksmith Chris Henkels, Williamsburg Gunsmith Richard Sullivan and Massachusetts artist-blacksmith Carl Close. The demos were quite comprehensive . Also included were raffles, auctions and tailgating. Good times! Don't forget that the NJBA is having their spring meet 4-13-13 at Peter's Valley Craft Center tomorrow. Andy Dohner is doing a demo, Dick Sargent also. Lots of forging stations if you'd like to get in some forge time. There will also be a Zipmax there to play with. Should be a nice event!

Some of you may be aware that following a long period of moribundity there was a meeting in January to attempt to revive the KBA. The first step seems to be to get some people and some forges together on a regular basis. My apologies for the short notice for this invitation. I will be hosting a hammer-in at my shop in Louisville this Saturday, 30 March 2013 at 11:00 am. I'll give a tour of the shop, do a short forging demonstration and then there will be some open forge time and general socializing. My place is the Fred Hutt Blacksmith Shop, 853 S Seventh St. Louisville, KY 40203 http://goo.gl/maps/iTYLj https://www.facebook.com/events/630329126980424/
