Lots of pictures of this feisty little rooster.

  5. Here is the finished horse . There are a few refinements that made this one a little harder. the horse is making a tight left turn , this puts all the feet and the centre axis to the right of centre. I was going to build the standard web truss internal frame and horse in an upright stance then when finished tilt the whole artwork to the left. BUT then I realised that web trusses only work when vertical. so lots of dramas working on 2 axis at the same time. The vertically aligned web truss had to be completely contained within the left side tilted horse. All my old measurements and tricks on finding a point in a 3 dimensional space were now no good to me. So this one wa…

A candle holder doesn't have to be a cup on a stick. There are so many things in the scarp pile that can be adapted to make them. Here are a couple I put together for fun. A 17mm socket holds a standard candle pretty well. The ones on the left are made from the rotors in a displacement pump. I hope this photo comes out because I have just got a new computer and I'm not sure how to access my pics. This is a trial run (hoping).

I have been wanting to make a falcon hood out of steel for awhile now. I worked on it a little yesterday and a little more today. The following is how I did it. The sheet metal is salvaged from a 1940's era sheet metal kitchen cabinet. The metal is very thin and I had a heck of a time welding it without burning the thing up, Oxy/Acetylene was the best method for me.

Can't claim this as my own, but I did hold it while the master welded it! Hands are forged out of a couple old wrenches, most of the body came from my old truck after I did lockers and a lift kit. All work was done by my 9 year is daughter. I did pull the wrenches out off the forge and hold them while she hammered, and prep the welds, everything else was all her. Now he stands in the flower bed keeping a watchful eye out for iron butterfly and such.

  16. Ok, so this one is inspired from Frosty from the last elephant I made. Can't say it's exactly what he was talking about but with his story and ideas it inspired this. ( new attempt at pictures, still need a good diffused light source and a better/ bigger back drop. ) yes I have an ironing board and iron. No, I haven't used it yet. might turn it into art muahahaha. So quality of pictures aside.... Here is a circus elephant riding a unicycle while holding an umbrella with a mouse along for the ride.

A small, but complicated project I thought I'd share. The forging technique comes from Angelo Bartolucci. The starting stock I used was 5" of 3/16"x2" flat bar. The preform was hot cut/sawn out, then each part was forged. I'd like to try this again and clean up the parts a little better. Ok... now I can't rotate the image upright. I swear this site has more issues with photo editing. Anyone have an idea how to rotate an image on here?

Just a quirky bird I made. I know it's not an actual dodo but it's goofy enough that the name fits I think. It has spikes in the feet to stick it in the ground. I tried springs on the neck and they gave me a lot of trouble. I found that welding on the head with the body grounded caused the spring to heat up and deform.

A friend asked what I was making and off the top of my head, thinking a figure as pictured, I said Kombuki Man. I'd have sworn it existed and I was just being silly. After googling it there is no Kombuki Man that I can find so here it is. Kombuki Man. A native of Australia preparing the aborigines. Waring race wiped out by peace and the love of nature. Known for their big mouths and flapping tongues. Historians believe some have survived and have migrated to North America and are into politics.

Durring my surprise bday party over the weekend (thanks my crazy friends) there was interest in my hummingbird outside so I thought I'd give an indoor sculpture a go tonight. I risked a spring on this one so the flower and bird move. After the second spring it worked I had 2 pieces that worked out to break this one in two.

Here's a funny thing. Wanted to make a small bird sculpture for a friend, so looked around in the scrap for a couple of likely pieces. I found a hook for a body and a blade off some scissors for a beak. Now here's a thing ... when I cleaned up the hook with acid (heavy gal) I saw the name cast into the hook was the surname of the person for whom it was intended. What a happy co-incidence that this bird is really personalised. I found a few more of those hooks, but this was the only one with that name. My guess is that the Sewell company is a manufacturer of electrical components or something, but I found no reference on the 'net. It's special when things like t…
