October 5, 20223 yr Dad used to talk about his cat when he was a kid name of Skipper Peevus. I don't recall the story about how Skipper lost his tail but it earned him the nick name "Stub." Pappy, my maternal Grandfather was allergic to cats so Mother couldn't even pet one till she moved away from home. No old family cat names from that side of the family. My maternal Grandmother, "Mom," dearly loved the family cats and was always spoiling them for some lap cat time. Frosty The Lucky.
October 5, 20223 yr Lost one of the barn cats last night. Dead on the side of the road at the end of the shop's driveway. Cat food usage will go down a bit---actually we are feeding the same; just bigger cats and hungrier as winter eases closer. So far of the way too many kittens: 1 rehomed, 2 dead from injuries. The life of a feral cat is almost medieval---"nasty, brutish and short."
October 6, 20223 yr Author We had a cat we called either just kitty or kitty cat. He was a Norwegian forest cat, weirdest cat i ever had. In the summer you could not get that cat out of the house for anything. Come winter the colder it got the longer he wanted to be outside. He would be out so long there was many times i worried he had froze to death. The life of a feral cat is indeed hard. We fortunately work with some ladies who run a rescue and trap, neuter, and release thing. They come out every so often and set traps in the barn. So far all of them have been fixed but for 1 female who has already had 15 kittens in the last 2 years. 3 litters, 5 kittens in each. That is where the little guy we have now came from. My wife gets to attached to them though. We also have 2 polyacetals that have started hanging around this year. One looks like a cat i used to have named Opie so i call him Opie looking cat. The other my granddaughters named Oreo cause he is black and white, spotted, not a tuxedo like coat.
October 7, 20223 yr Author The wife informed me when i came home from work that we decided on the name. He will now be called "Friar Tuck". Tuck or Tuckers for short. Thanks everyone for the replies, some really great suggestions and many will be used for the nameless and future barn cats. Next up the dog, when i get another that is.
October 7, 20223 yr An excellent cat name! Here's to Friar Tuck, long may he be with you getting Tucked into things he shouldn't! Frosty The Lucky.
October 8, 20223 yr I'm watching the evening news right now and just saw a story about a stray kitten that got it's head stuck in a glass bowl, It looked like it was wearing a space helmet. The folks who videoed and rescued it named it "Buzz Lightyear." It's 3 littermates were also trapped and will be neutered, vaccinated and adopted out. Buzz is already spoken for. If you're wondering you can Search "KTUU TV News" and watch the footage. Frosty The Lucky.
October 8, 20223 yr Author We had a cat when my daughter was little that got its head stuck in a glass. One of those ones that look like a mason jar with a handle. He got scared and managed to break the glass but it broke in a diagonal kind of way that went right under his neck. If he had thrashed around to much it would have cut his throat. My ex-wife had to hold him and his head still while i broke the remainder of the glass to free him.
