  6. Started by JMR,

I have just started getting into blacksmithing and in a short amount of time it has almost become an addiction. I have a great deal of respect for the art/profession and I am happy to see that there are people keeping it alive. However, it seems that blacksmithing is almost non–existent in the Chicago-land area. I might be looking in the wrong places but it has been very difficult to find anything about Chicago blacksmithing culture. The Chicago school of arts offers a $400 blacksmith class… I would rather buy $400 in steel and learn my mistakes. I have looked into the Illinois Valley Blacksmith’s Association and all of their events are 3 or more hours south of the City.…

I'm moving soon; just wanted to see who's out there. I've been dabbling in sharp things for a few years but it's always nice to have the opportunity to check out a real setup/smithy/shop or event.

  12. I'm travelling to Bucharest for 4 days end of this week for a friends stag party - whilst the night time activities will be planned out for me I will hopefully (hangovers permitting) be wandering the city a little to see what's what. Is there anything even loosely blacksmith related that would be worth seeing? Cheers

  21. Howdy guys, I've been having a blast doing this weekly livestream, and have quickly realized the format it should take; a mini hammer-in every week! I have found that sharing the forge with another person creates a really nice flow, with smiths alternating use of the anvil and answering questions or chatting with viewers. Currently I have blacksmith Kyle McCormick coming up on February 27th, and then bladesmith John Kotlarchick on March 13th. I am looking for help with filling up a schedule that will keep things interesting for many Mondays to come. Keep in mind my shop is limited, and very much only geared towards knifemaking, so I recommend bringing …

  24. I am traveling to Havana, Cuba and wonder if anyone knows of any blacksmiths that I might visit. Thanks

  25. Started by gonefishin,

Having no knowledge of Blacksmithing other than reading about it and not having easy access to a class, im in a bit of a bind. If anyone knows of any places around St. Louis, Illinois where someone can teach me, by all means let me know. I would love to take a class, I've just been unable to find any. I live 15 minutes out of St. Louis. Im wanting to learn how to Smith blades if that matters, im sure any blacksmith could head me in the right direction though. It's just going to be hard to teach myself something such as this.
