  6. For the past several years, whenever we've gone to Quadstate and actually shown up Friday, the majority of the stuff for sale has already been picked over and sold. In fact, it's not unusual to see vendors packing up and getting ready to go home Friday night. Can anyone offer any insight into what day would be the best day to show up, for maximum purchasing opportunities? I'm willing to take time off work and go down early, even on Wednesday, if that's what it takes.

  9. Started by HogHearse,

Looking for any smiths in the Katy Texas area that would like to hammer some things. I'm very new to smithing and really hope to find someone to show me the ropes. Up until now I'm self\YouTube taught and I feel like I'm kinda stuck in my progression. I'm not afraid to work. I don't mind putting in my 'dues' ie sweeping, fetching coffee, green horn work. I just want to learn from someone with experience. Thanks y'all for your time.

  11. So I live around 30 miles north of Dallas. Keep in mind I'm 15, but I've been looking for some blacksmithing/bladesmithing classes near me I've found one called Shadowhawk Blades, but they're 2 hours away from me which I'm fine with but my parents don't want to be waiting for 8-10 hours doing nothing. So I was wondering if there were any classes closer to me where they can just drop me off and then pick me up later without the long drive. I'd say around 1 hour or less is a manageable drive.

Its always fun to meet others that do this, so just looking to see if anyone is around that area with a little free time that would be open to hang out with me

Hello everyone. I seem to be having trouble finding fellow knife maker gatherings in my area. There is a show in Conroe towards the end of the year, but I haven't found anything else. I'm not sure if I should join the Texas Knifemakers Guild since the last event I could find on their website was from over a year ago. I have messaged a local maker who is probably known in the knife making community, with no response. I don't want to pester makers but I really want to meet other makers in my area. I can't talk knives with any of my friends because they just can't keep up, with respect. They aren't makers and just don't know about making knives. Anything helps. Thanks in adv…

    Started by Guest DanielT,

I just accepted a new job in Minneapolis (bloomington area) and will be relocating there from Cinci once my house sells. Anyone know of a good blacksmithing group in the Twins Cities or a good place to take classes? Any one from Minneapolis? I will be staying in a hotel Mon-Friday for a while so would love to have something to do at night vs sit in a hotel room. Thanks, Daniel

Smiths, Happy Monday! I just learned that the local guild is moving back to limited in-person meetings and, even better, is planning to host a Hammer-In this June. I am still dripping wet behind the ears and have never been to a Hammer-In. I'm kind of like my daughter, come to think of it: my smithing life started during COVID, so it's been a little weird. Anyways, I'm just wondering what to expect. I know that Hammer-Ins are probably different in different parts of the country/world. This one will be just north of the Twin Cities in Minnesota and is scheduled over a whole weekend, if that narrows it down. I'm not looking so much for logistical stuff (food, co…
