ausfire
Nice shine. So how many flap discs did you burn up??
GrumpyBiker
Still on the first one! LoL but cleaning up this one took a couple of grinding disks , flaps & cutting disks ! But given the $35 I paid for it I think it's with it .

Millhand
Wrecked a perfectly good piece of steel......tried a hammer eye by myself, man i need a friend about now. Or just a striker i guess.. Hard to tell from the pic but its way off center.
JHCC
If it's square and straight, just make a dog-head hammer or some kind of top tool.
Millhand
My slitter was one of the first things i made. Its far from strait. Never thought about the problems that would cause. A bent slitter is like a rutter on a boat. Duh! 1 minute ago, JHCC said: If it's square and straight, just make a dog-head hammer or some kind of top tool. Im going to do just that jhcc, will make a nice top tool. Thx!

Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Nothing in the forge, but I began tearing out an old seldom used 10 foot long wood work table that the pack rats had made a condominium out of. Sorry no pictures of before but I'll take some tomorrow of the shelving that I still need to clean out and burn pile.

I did just that, its a trapping hammer I promised a friend when i first started smithing. Im unhappy with it in so many ways but it will have to do. He pushed me into the project so any flaws are on his sholders lol. I knew i wasn't ready but hey, I knocked out my first hammer!! I cheated a bit with the torches and welder, also had to get creative with the handle making as the eye is way off. Shoud work well for his application though. All in all im just glad its over ! Lol
Tommie Hockett
I think it looks nice...... but I have no idea what a trapping hammer is lol

Learned alot! My trapping hammer is a cheap 3 lb sledge with a piece of flat welded on the back for digging a trap bed in hard/frozen ground. The other end is for driving trap stakes. We trap yotes in our spare time.
Tommie Hockett
ok I gotcha. I did a little of that back in highschool. I trapped coons but I used snares. keep up the forging bud that stuff is awesome I cant wait to give it a go when I get home!
Reeltree
very nice piece for the first one,,,perhaps a slit, V wedge thru the back middle for pulling out the stakes cool touchmark
Judson Yaggy
Broke my old framing hammer and have never made a claw hammer before, and had a nice chunk of 4140, so... And forged out some parts for the next handrail job...
