Getting some work prepared for a woodland sculpture exhibition. The wood will be full of bluebelles at that time, and you all might know how I love my flowers- I've been inspired by the little snowdrops peeping their heads out of the snow, we've had a particularly harsh winter up here so everything else seems to be late. Anyway, this is the first one, its about 1m tall, I plan to do maybe about 7 of them, plus some other stuff I haven't even thought of yet Now I can't decide how to finish them. Obviously they will all dwell outside so thinking maybe painting- but what colour- not sure if I went for the realistic green leaves and white flowers, sometimes i am not a fan…

The latest in my series of forged organic yard art... I call them "garden sentinels". This one ended up in the NWBA Spring Conference auction fundraiser a couple weeks back. It's all hand forged and glued together with MIG, the seed pod is brass-brushed, whole thing is finished with paste wax.

We just finished a bronze pour - 3 cruces at 300 lbs each - a nice way to spend the day. Couple of small glitches, one split mold (our fault for not binding it up), and a small break-out but all turned out well. Next week, more mold making then on to the next pour.

I've been asked to make a few bits for a falconer friend and rather than the usual rams head he would like a bird of some description. I'm sure creating a bird head will be simple enough, but I'm stuck for ideas on design I've searched around here and on google images, but I'm afraid my google-fu is weak. Has anybody here made or seen a birds head poker for example? I remember at a st Clem's in Devon a few years back somebody made a fantastic woodpecker as part of a door knocker but I can't recall it clearly enough to see the shape of the head any suggestions as to what it could look like would be appreciated :)

Here's another example of a forge welded bundle. It's supposed to be a hummingbird. I haven't made one in quite a while, and I messed up on the wing arrangement, another reject. Here are the steps:

This is a project I am working on with a local artist. I didnt do any of the fun stuff... I built all the back support framing and structural parts... This thing is about 26' long and 18' tall.... After powder coat I I get to go install this thing in the side of a building in Ballard WA... When its done it will have glass centers in some of the flowers and a big glass fireworks burst looking thing up in the far left... Fun project!

Here is my latest creation. It is a cross made from 1/2 sq bar. I put copper inbetween the iron bars. I also did copper under the bands holding the cross together. I added some copper rivets for accent. The cross was then colored with heat with my tourch then clear coated. What do you think? Always looking for feedback.
