  1. Thanks Sam! Glad you like them. :-)
  2. thanks! A little bob punch action to suggest seeds... kind of a sunflower I reckon.
  3. The latest in my series of forged organic yard art... I call them "garden sentinels". This one ended up in the NWBA Spring Conference auction fundraiser a couple weeks back. It's all hand forged and glued together with MIG, the seed pod is brass-brushed, whole thing is finished with paste wax.
  4. Very clever and nice looking work. Thanks for sharing your pics!
  5. Thanks Beth! The base came out of thin air, the idea for it anyway. I'm pleased with the result. If you think mine looks good, you should have seen the one Mark A. made while instructing us... wow. :-) Cheers!
  6. Thanks! It was a fun piece to work on.
  7. Here's one of the recent things I have made, on the last day of Mark Aspery's Fundamentals class back in October. I'm a newbie, but enthusiastic about it. :-) Texture on the petals is from cold-peening. The petals were forge-heated then formed with scroll tongs. A small collar (not visible in photo) is forge welded onto the stem to support the stem-as-rivet. Paste wax finish. The base I made after the fact... a chunk of 3/4" plate, chamfered and textured in the forge, with a hole in the top to hold the rose stem. I brushed it while warm with a brass brush, then paste wax to give it a cast bronze look. -Rick
  8. Howdy all, I just joined up on the forum after lurking and enjoying all the content silently for a while. A little background... been interested in forging for the last decade after a class I took here in Seattle, but just now getting serious about getting into it again. I've been taking classes for the last year or so, and getting to know a little more while doing some work with a couple of local smiths. About to set up my first dedicated shop space (sub-letting within another smith's shop) and am looking forward to a productive winter. With the rain we get here this time of year, I'm thankful to have a place to go and work inside! Anyhow, it's good to be on here. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. -Rick
