Hello everyone, this morning I was able to pick up a mouse hole forge anvil. I believe I got it for a fair price anywhere, even more so in my area as most Vulcans in this area from 70+ lbs come in around 350 and up. I paid 400 for this, it weighs in at exactly 168.9 lbs, 1" hardy, 9/16" pircthel which appears drilled as opposed to punch as the underside of the heel is smooth. Serial number is still clear as day 14435. I have about 85 to 90% rebound. I only gave it a quick wire wheel to read the print and serial which happen to all standout great. I am need to forging. I am looking at the kanca anvils 110 vs 165 #. I can get the 110 easy the 165 # will be harder to get. My question is, will their be much difference between the two anvils in weight on forging knives? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Hello, My father and I just picked up our first anvil yesterday, i cleaned it up today and i am seeking your input on a possible manufacturer. I can not find a makers mark on either side. However the front has a "10" and the back has a "42" The person i bought it from it weighed 110 pounds, feels about that weight. I will weight it in a few days. Thank you for the help. Matt

My neighbor has a GE 125 lb Farrier's anvil he uses for lawn ornament. I've talked to him about rescuing it for use, and he said I could have it for $250. I finally looked at it close up and it still has the casting seams and appears to be never used. He said his father found it buried in a field up in Temecula CA. I'm trying to figure out why it was never fettled and if it's worth $250, or if it's going to be too much of a headache. Would it have been hardened before being Blancharded? Or is hardening done after surfacing? Why would this unfinished anvil be randomly in a horse field??!! Any advice would be appreciated!!

picked up this anvil in va ,from a seller named cb about 15 plus yrs ago, he said it came from a farm in pa , marked 0-3-18( 102 lbs), has a 100 percent rebound, its all i need, has england stamp which im told puts it at 1910 or later, required by england for taxes i think I paid 250 for it then, (about 2.45 a pound) the hardy hole is 7/8 inch

Hi. The attached anvil was in my friends uncles garage. It is small. I have no means of weighing other than bathroom scale with me on it. If I guess I thin 2.5 to 3 pounds. Not cast iron. Either bronze or brass. No markings per se other than incised mark that I thought was a bird. Maybe just some random mark in metal. What I haven't found is an anvil with rectangular hole on face plate. Her uncle would be 106 if he was alice today. No way of knowing the age. Please see pics. Thanks

This came out of a high school that used to have a forge class, circa 1913. I suspect this came out lab. It's pretty badly abused, as you can see. It's like every kid in class took a swipe at the horn, for the last 100 yrs. It bears resemblance to another Trenton anvil, being the separate top plate and location of the stamped weight and serial number. Hoping I'm lucky on this. Assuming this is a Trenton, what does the serial number A91537 mean?

I picked up this anvil for $50 about a year ago. Obviously it's in pretty rough condition with the heel being broken off, but the edges are in usable shape and the face is relatively clean with some minor pitting. It has about 80-85% rebound and weighs exactly 200 pounds as is. I know that this anvil was made before 1898 in Germany by H. Boker and is marked as 234 pounds but I have a few questions. Friend of mine just got this nice 150# Hay Budden. Looks like Serial # is A4390. It is marked with its weight "150" on both the side and foot. Hadn't seen that before. He got it for a little less than $3 a pound. Told him it was a great deal. He wants to know its approximate age and I don't have AIA. Thanks in advance for help.

My grandfather just gave me a hay budden anvil and i would like to find out some more info on it it has a number 3 stanped under the horn it has 2 upside down 1s and a 4 under the name the sn is 87475 the 8 could be a 3 and the 4 is really unclear

Ill be honest guys, I am not sure if I should have clicked into the HB review thread or started a new one. So I started a new because I am not sure I have a HB anvil, and fear I may have been played. I am not worried about the money but would like to know if it is what I hope it is I do apologize that my first post is to pester you with a question. I recently acquired a wrought iron Arm and Hammer anvil. The logo is stamped in the side as opposed to being raised from the surface. This, as I understand, is much more desirable since the raised logo would indicate a Vulcan Arm and Hammer which is cast iron. It weighs 366 lbs. I'm not worried about the value of the anvil as I was gifted with it and intend on gifting my son with it 40 years from now. What I am interested in is hoping someone on the forum can assist me in dating it. The serial number on the foot is 31538 I believe.
