  1. Hello everyone, I’ve just came across this Peter Wright Anvil on Craigslist in central Florida. I am going to see it tomorrow and may purchase it. I wanted to see what you all might think about the price and condition, everything looks fine to me but I’m am not to familiar with blacksmithing in general, it will be a gift for my father. Here are pictures and the Craigslist description and sorry if I put this question in the wrong place. And thank you for the help. (Peter Wright Antique Anvil with handmade Blacksmith vise. Markings say: Peter Wright Patent 2 0 12 After researching the numbers on google it weighs 236 pounds plus the vise and stand. Stand and vise included. $1500 / obo)
  2. I found a Trenton anvil in a pile of junk in man’s front yard. I’d like to find out if anybody knows what these model numbers mean.
  3. Hi Everyone! Yesterday I picked up this 140# Arm & Hammer anvil and I was wondering if someone can help me determine the age. The serial number appears to be 15200. Searching online I haven't found an example of an Arm and Hammer anvil with the same logo as mine. After looking for a while I was stoked to locate this anvil because there aren't a lot for sale in my area (Northern CA). I was also really happy to stumble across this awesome forum. What a great resource you have all built here. Thank you! Mickey
  4. I have just acquired this Anvil and would like to get some feedback about the worth
  5. I have a Shaw & justice dead stroke power hammer In need of rebuilding. However I can not find much information on it. I want to know if these were good machines and worth fixing or if it would be a waist of time and money? Any information would be helpful. Thanks.
  6. My grandfather bought this secondhand about 35 years ago, my Nana is now selling most of her things to move into a smaller house, this has been living in the garden as a patio ornament all that time. There doesn't seem to be any maker's mark, though it's exposure to the elements has left the surface pretty rough (it's obviously iron) I'm not sure how heavy it is but I regularly carry a 17kg dog and this thing I barely managed to get a cm off the ground for one second. All my Nana is interested in is what we should advertise it as (anvil or ASO) and how much we can get for it but I'd just like to know a bit more about it if anyone can help, a friend of mind believes it is probably cast but as I said, the weather has removed any seam lines that may have been present. Also I hit it with a hammer and it dings, on the middle, the horn and the back
  7. Picked up a 176lb anvil today from a local for $275. The edges are very good on it and the face is great too. The serial number is 135163. I was wondering when it was made and what the value per pound is. I will post pictures when I can.
  8. http://www.harborfreight.com/garage-shop/anvils/55-lb-rugged-cast-iron-anvil-69161.html#.UyxAAfldW50 Has anyone used the Central Forge Anvil before? Its within my price range, and close to me. I have heard that they get soft in the middle after a few months. Thanks!
