Tubalcain2
i would agree. definitely looks like a home-job.
Ridgewayforge
This looks like a nifty way to do it- You could weld a tube down to strengthen the hardy hole, and then use the thin hollow tail to work on thin forks and things.
Al Stephens
I like it! I've got one with no tail that I use as a spare for classes. I see this modification in it's future.
stockmaker
You need to call this anvil Lee Marvin. Note the silver nose! Well, there was an image of THATS HOT's anvil here when I wrote the above post. See his anvil picture above for a great looking anvil and stand and a little bit of humor. ThomasPowers
edit buttons disappear swiftly on this site; just one of the idiosyncrasies we put up with because *other* *people* are doing the heavy lifting to keep it running!

ThomasPowers
I have 3 anvils with 1.5" hardy holes and found an easy way to get tooling for them is to buy top swages with badly mushroomed ends and forge the striking ends down to fit the hardy holes. Luckily I have a large screwpress that is brilliant in dressing the sides flat and parallel after forging near to size.
Millhand
Thanks Thomas, I've no screw press but am starting a big forging press build to do just that. I have found my hands will not take hours of the hammer, much to my dismay.
JHCC
You could also build a reducing fitting to slip into the hole and bring it down to 1" or whatever fits your existing tools.
ThomasPowers
I do that too, I took a section of sq tubing that fit and cut down the diagonals about an inch; then heat and bend out the tabs to rest on the anvil. I then repeated the process to have a nesting set that will take the hardy to a "standard" 1" so I can use the tools from other anvils on the big one---but I do make/modify large tooling for jobs I do a lot of! arkie
Great idea on the square tubing trick for the hardy hole! Thanks for posting.
G-ManBart
I know this picture is pretty bad...just brought home my first Hay Budden. It's 145lbs and the serious number appears to be 146868, which I think should put it at 1907 based off other posts here (feel free to correct me). Better pics tomorrow:

D.C.
THAT..IS..AWESOME. The detail on the feet of the anvil...let alone the vise! Does anyone have any info on this thing?
Marc1
It seems more like a show piece than a work tool to me, but yes I agree a lot of detail in it. There would be a bit of getting used to have the vice right there ... Here is another one. At first it seems the anvil is small but in this one you can see an A4 page on the pin board for size comparison
Frosty
I'm thinking it can come live next to my chair in our livingroom. Sure Deb might scream but her anvil is sitting by the back deck door and this one is legitimately a piece of art. Frosty The Lucky.
