  1. My first on was my grandfathers anvil, 1835 mouse hole, my second I bought from a friend of the family’s, a Sisco supreme.
  2. Beautiful vise, nice score .
  3. To the left of the made in Sweden Mark it looks like the bottom of the oval that’s on my sisco supreme, and the font of the weight stamp is the same as mine. I’ll get a picture
  4. I agree with Thomas, looks like a Columbian the pivot plate, screwbox, and overall shape is an earlier columbian . The latter ones straight sided lower jaw arms.
  5. I’ve got an indian chief that looks like it’s twin . Clean it up you may find some markings on it to id it.
  6. I live in the Deep South , we don’t have humidity,it’s just plain wet! I use wd 40 on all my tools and anvils, it works well.
  7. My prayers for your dad . My dad has been in the hospital we thought it was cancer ,got the news today that it wasn’t.
  8. Either way, use in good health and have fun! Nice anvil!
  9. I’m a history nut ,I’ve got 2 blacksmiths in my family history , sorry ancestors, I’m not doing great work . I’m an electronics repair tech to pay the bills , just do this for my therapy of dealing with idiots all day, I can only hope and try to be a tenth as good as some of you guys.
  10. Just weld it up , if you like. I have several postvises some are missing washers it just makes tightening and loosening a little harder, but it’s still useable.
  11. You did good on that one! What is the weight of it ? Many questions , we need to know to answer your question.
  12. I’ve just about stopped using my hardy tools on my anvil , I’ve made tools welded to some 1/2 in plate an use them in one of my vises . It holds better ,and I don’t worry if the hardy won’t fit or gets loose.
  13. Good looking vise ,add some arch in the spring get it mounted and go to work. Congratulations!
  14. Nice job on all , your anvil is much better than my first , a piece of railroad track. Your on your way to a fun mental illness,I meant hobby. Have fun.
  15. Looks to be in great condition! How’s the screw ? Get her mounted , and get to work .
  16. Mounted in a good stand these will work nicely, I would do as Catropheus stated on mounting . Have fun !
  17. Looks great , did well . Ready for working.
  18. Nice anvil looks to be in good shape , you should feel lucky to have a possibly very rare anvil.
  19. Very handy tool ,I’ve made a few myself enjoy it.
  20. Nice vise, I’m sure she’s old enough to go out on a date . My dad has one just like yours , he’s had it 40 to 50 years. I don’t know if it was new when he got it.

    Vise ID

Yes I definitely think Colombian the screw box,leg shape and hinge plate looks so , it looks like a c on the top of the mounting plate .
  22. Use it as is , it's still got plenty of use left. wire brush it some to clean it up a bit ,then a lite coat of oil on the sides. Pound some hot iron on the top, that will start to polish it up.
  23. Good looking heirloom don’t ever get rid of ,except to pass it down . I’ve got my grandfathers mouse hole anvil , I do use it lightly but I do most of my work on a sisco supreme cause it has no value to me but a nice tool . Papaws anvil will only leave my place when I pass it down to my family , I pray that value it as much as I do.
