Anybody know what brand propane forge this is ? Or have any experience with this model ? Thanks Sam

Hello, I am a new feller around here and have recently finished making a new forge. (my first) I will try to post a few pics and would like to hear what you all think of it.

looking to add a natural gas forge for pattern welding. any comments ideas brands plans etc ??? any problems getting natural gas hot enough for reliable welding ?? thanks in advance :)

I did a search on this and didn't find a satisfactory answer, so at the risk of asking a stupid question here goes. I have almost finished my Michael Porter propane bottle forge with a 3/4" burner. I got the ceramic insulation #8, 1", 2300 degree blanket installed in two layers and am wondering if ceramic floor tile is suitable as a forge shelf. I got a bunch of it left over from renovating an old house. Is it worthwhile? By the way I'm thinking about making the front and back door out of the same material. OK let me have it.

Hi All, I have been slowly going through your threads and trying to find out what the most efficient ways of building a production shops. I am a plumber/pipefitter/gasfitter. I have knowledge with natural gas, and propane. I have access to all the tools necessary as well as scrap metal. I have questions that need some help with. I am looking to get in to bladesmithing and random metal fabrication with steel, copper and so on. What would be the recommended forge? Gas or coal, if gas, propane or Natural? hi im new to this so be kind. im Aaron im 17 and have been smithing for over a year now. i am looking to upgrade to a gas forge. i do mostly general iron work but have started bladesmithing and hope to get in to that. if anyone could tell me about good gas forge brands or models out there that will fit my needs i would greatly appreciate it.

hi I'm building a propane forge And have a few questions. I want 2 use a piece of 12'' pipe 16'' long. I plan on lining it 2'' thick with ep kaolin & silica sand 50/50 (I have them on hand). I am going to use a 3/4'' oliver upwind burner. what I want to know is will this be to thick for the clay to set? Is this going to be too much volume ( 8'' by 12'' after making end caps)for just one burner?

I built this forge in art school, 16 years ago. Deffinatly dosen't reach forge welding heat but its good for small stuff!

Well, my two burner diamondback bladesmith forge came in today, I love it and I haven't even fired it yet, need to buy tape for the threads still, but anyhow here are pictures... I also bought the idler valve, should fire it up by the end of this week, will get pictures for sure. next to do is make my stand for it, but for now, i have a temp stand out in the shop "area"

I was wondering if anyone has tried using 1" x 4 1/2" x9" hard fire brick on the inner wall of a gas forge. I would be using the kaowool outside the firebrick and then outside the kaowool I would fabricate a steel jacket for durability. I've made one with kaowool inside and coated with ceramic, but it is too fragile in my opinion

high guys: i am building a gas forge for welding damacsus billets. It is about 9 in high and square and about 18 in long. It has an angle iron frame. I will hold it together with threaded rod. My? is this, will expansion of the bricks be a problem? Maybe i should spring load the rods holding it together. I will appericate and info you can give me. Thianks, Leroyk

I'm new here- So I apologize if this is in the wrong place! I'm in the process of building my studio. It is a Multi-purpose studio, and one of it's purposes will be blacksmithing. The Studio area is about 900 square feet, and is broken up into a 'clean' area where the drawing/painting goes on, and a 'dirty' area where I do the wood/metal work. The 'dirty' side has a roll-up door, which opens to an outside work area that can be used in nice weather. Does anybody know what type A/C motors the old forges with the 100 ohm rheostat used ? I don't think this type control will work with the modern capacitor start 110 V A/C motors of today ? I understand how to do speed control with 3 phase motors and DC motors, but I'm puzzled how these worked ?

Here are a few images and a description of the intial firing of my gas forge. If you can't tell, that's a T-Rex 3/4" burner. It is working well, but I do not know if I have it tuned properly. My flame pulsates from time to time, and the flame jumps back to the jet tip from time to time when I am adjusting the PSI and vent slide. The closest I have gotten to the description on the T-Rex website still has quit a bit of orange. Any ideas? Also, with gas pressure nearing 10 PSI, the flare heats to a bright glow very quickly, and flames leaping from the mouth would make it impossible to actually work with. The test burn lasted about 5 minutes, 2 of which was warm up. N…

Well, since I haven't been able to be reading and typing on this forum for the past few days, I finished building my first gasser and started on the second. It is a small single asperated burner and the second is a larger 2 burner. I am going to fire it in the morning and I'll post some pics. I can't wait!!!!:D

This is a fire brick forge that I recently finished. So thought I would share a few photos. See what you think more photos in the gallery. That's home made reducing bell on th burner so i don't have a lot of money invested to build this forge.

I have been working in the shop during this bitter cold we are having. The sawmill doesn't run well below twenty to many hyd lines. Anyways I have been wanting to get started beating some iron so I made a small forge out of some 6" well casing, copper pipe, pvc and a hair dryer. Got it together yesterday but need some fire brick for the bottom, for now I will use some charcoal left over from a party last summer and try this out. I have a project in mind, We make signs out of heavy pine slabs with lettering and numbers handsawn out of basswood, I have an order for a house number on a pine slab, this will hang from a angle iron bracket. Tonight I finished building and fired up my first gas forge. Its blown and heats 1/2" rebar QUICK. One end has a 3"x4" opening and 4"x6" on the other end. I finally got the air and gas adjusted so no flames are jumping out the door. This is my first experience with gas and was supprised at the exhaust. I suspect that "Dragons Breath" refers to actual flames comming out because of improper air/fuel mix. Three feet from the door the exhaust is too hot to hold my hand. Is this normal? I tried turning down the air but then I loose the heat. I was just wondering what the normal backblast area was. How does this compare to yours?

Well I just bought my first gas forge..A diamondback two burner blacksmith forge..It has a 3200* bottom brick and I was wondering how do you prolong the life while forge welding? Plates in the bottom? Any certain flux that is kinder on the brick? Thanks

Hi all as you can tell by this being my first post that I am new to this hobby and looking to build my first forge. I was thinking a propane would be the cleanest option as I wanted to put it in to my garage. I am a mechanic by trade so I am already set up with torches and a couple of welders and am used to hot steel now I want to try something artistic. Any good sites for forge design and burner plans?
