Ok ...BARE with me... for aout 2 years i have worked with a gas forge with a single burner and it did the job...of heating up the iron but not forge welding heat... NOW this is a BURNER ... looking for some blueprints on how 2 make a burner for my gas forge i cama accros this one...

I plan to build a stacked-brick propane forge with about 300 cubic inch volume. I want it hot enough to forge weld. It looks as though I want one or two venturi burners. Suggestions as to a source? Make? Model? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I understand that you can use brush-on coatings like ITC-100, to help the efficiency of a forge. But I haven't been able to find the answer to two questions: One, I read about it being applied to Dura-blanket and Kao-wool type liners, but can it also be used on firebrick? Does it or will it crack off if so used? And two, can the coating be applied to a "used" liner? In other words, if I build my forge with Kao-wool, and use it a couple of times, can I later go in and apply the ITC-100 to the wool and have it work properly? (And not crack and fall off, etc.) Doc.

It was a perfect day for some back yard construction. I have been gathering the parts of the forge for some time now and today it all came together. The fire pot is an old 16" 8 bolt wheel rim with one edge cut away. That sits on an old iron table frame. I also found an old 1/4" thick iron plate while I was walking through a field and this makes a nice side table top for the forge. The air is supplied by a 1 1/4" pipe. I found a shut off valve at a second hand store and this is used for the monitoring of the air flow. Works real good. I can have anything from a whisper to a full on flow. Hello All, I just registered and am looking to become a blacksmith. I presently am making knives using the stock removal method. I am having so much fun, I would like to forge my own blades, harden and temper them myself. This brings me to the topic...homemade gas forges. I am looking at building a gas forge using a Weber kettle grill. My plan is to line the bottom half of the kettle with fire brick and refractory cement, and the top half with 1" Kaowool or Duroblanket (8 lb) and coat it also with refractory cement. This is my forge setup in my garage.There is just enough room left for my pickup truck.I figure I've forged about 50-60 tantos there so far.

After deciding the hurdles in getting a coal forge up and running indoors for winter were more than my budget could handle, I started to think about a propane forge. Dodge made the tail end of a LP burner for me this weekend, so that part is coming along. Now I'm wondering about what kind of exaust I need for LP. I was thinking about mounting an old kitchen stove hood, with a blower attached, a few feet above the forge, and running the exaust through a thimble in the wall. Is that going to be enough? Any thoughts on what kind of CFM I need to look for in a blower to exaust all that? I'm planning on a second, smaller blower to pull air from outside the other side…

First off i love coal!!!!!! Ok now that I have said that I have a question for you gasser guys! I have no choice if I ever want to forge at home I must use a gasser. No coal or any open fires in town limits. So I think in the next few years I will get one. just for simple around the house stuff. My wife is a great stain glass artist. And I want to get into glass blowing.......so can a gasser be used to blow glass as well? if so are there different settings for blowing glass? peyton
