  1. Bubble Alumina is made by Zircar Ceramics and others. Commercial link removed.
  2. Welcome aboard... I hope you have read about not doing any grinding, milling or welding on that fine anvils hardened face. I think the serial number on the right is 210508 and Taylor substituted his T for the 1. If so someone with a copy of AIA may be able to verify that and date it. I think the Trexton logo was used on the later Trenton's.
  3. I agree with John B about the 90° bend, easy to turn them down cold. On that style a nice penny scroll would look very nice.
  4. That along with availability at least here in the U.S. although we went with bubble alumina.
  5. MRE= three lies in one... Meals Ready to Eat. Das I like the heart & inscription. Pick up some Tea candles they can set behind the heart when they want to.
  6. I use no flux brass brazing rod for pins, easy to get in most auto parts or welding stores.
  7. Yep, One of the time's "get it hot and hit it hard" does not apply.
  8. I have made some nice Ulul knives from them, although my saw blade may be different composition from yours. You just have to experiment with them. For mine, I quenched in warm peanut oil (hardened well) and tempered to straw. That way the knives stayed flexible and hold a good edge.
  9. I use old ones for rivet heading tools, without the flaring clamp. Use it in the post vise with the right hot stock in the corresponding hole, and set the head, then cut it off to the length needed.
  10. I have found with the bagged charcoal, some of the pieces are a little on the large size. I take a chopper and cut them down to about walnut size, which gives me a better fire and easier to manage.
  11. If you were close to me, I would show up in a jiffy with cash in hand, if you were selling it. Not only do we suffer from anvil envy, vise envy runs a close second and that one is a monster. The 50/50 mix of ATF & Acetone works better than most penetrating oils I have tried. Bumping the screw's back & forth also helps loosen rusted parts.
  12. Nope, sometimes harsh is the only way to get the point across. Of course with some folks, harsh makes them retreat into their "safe space".
  13. I used to struggle with that also. Now I simply say "You're welcome".
  14. I have drifted large holes using the post vise. take two pieces of the size hole you want and clamp them in the jaws the same distance apart, making a large hole.
  15. Welcome aboard... This will explain what just transpired. READ THIS FIRST 1915 is the date range of that serial number.
  16. BTW something I forgot to mention is a bench grinder conversion to a 36x2 inch belt grinder. I can't post a link to any commercial sites, but if you Google multitool 36x2 inch belt grinder, you should get plenty of hits. That was our first step up to a 2X72 grinder and if memory served they are close to your budget and ten times better than a 1x30.
  17. Thank you George, from another Vietnam era Vet. USCG '64-'70.
  18. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.... Oscar Wilde
