  1. I'm afraid you have started something in our shop. Debi just walked by, stopped and said oh those are really cute. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  2. The tray under the anvil comes in very handy to set tools on that you are using like hardy or chisels etc. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  3. Welcome from the Ozark Mountains. I'm also thinking Hay Budden. If so there should be a serial number on the front foot under the horn and the base would have an indention like this. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  4. Welcome from the Ozark Mountains. One possibility would be to contact your local Highway Dept and see if they have highway guard rails that have been removed for one reason or another. I know that ARDOT has them all the time and will donate them for a good cause. I would say your project will fit that category. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. 5. That's where I saw it, thanks for the memory jog. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  6. That's probably a pack rat. I once cast about a hundred lead round balls for my 50 cal. muzzleloader's and without thinking, I left them on the bench to cool down and forgot to go back to the shop and box them up until several days later. When I went out to get them about half were gone, found them a month or 2 later in a pack rats nest while digging through stuff on one of my many shelves, looking for something else. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  7. I think it may be here. https://www.vintagevises.com/vise_library.html What's one more rabbit hole to fall down. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  8. Looks like you nailed it Scott, I think I have seen a story about them in another forum, but can't for the life of me can't remember which one. I'll check in my bookmarks to see if I can find it. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  9. Welcome from the Ozark Mountains. It looks like a pretty nice anvil and having the history on it is a plus as far as I'm concerned. I hope you have read about not doing any grinding, milling or welding on the hardened steel face, which will do more harm than good. Hammering hot steel on it will help to shine up the face and help with the roughness. Have you done a ring & rebound test to see if the face is still hard? There is a trick to doing a good search on the forum, put in your search term and add site:iforgeiron.com to the end of the search string. Sadly the search feature on the forum leaves a lot to be desired. I tried that and here is but one hit. https://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/50283-bay-state-anvil/ I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  10. Welcome from the Ozark Mountains. It would help to know where in the world you are located, most places around here that install and repair garage doors usually have a bunch of them and are happy to give me all I care to carry away. We also have a scrap yard that will sell them at the going rate for steel scrap. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  11. Haywire is a standard for me. As far as the bumping thing, as I understand it from warnings I've received on another forum, it is when you go into a post you made, say in tailgating and it doesn't get much traffic and you go in and post something like "bump" to move it to the top of the list to give the post more visibility. That is frowned upon. Also like Scott said if you go start a new thread and link another thread without posting something it's considered "bumping", but if you go into the other thread and add a post to it it's not bumping but reviving an old thread. Now I think I'm confused too. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  12. A "bump" is a post or comment made by someone with the sole purpose of increasing the visibility of the primary message. Moving it to the top of the list. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  13. I agree, it does send a sense of longing and loss. Good job. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  14. That looks interesting. I use Excel on a thumb drive, which I can plug into my phone, however everything has to be entered manually. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  15. Manyana is good enough for me. I have 2 very large oak trees, I had to take down that need limbing and cutting up into firewood, so our new internet can hit the satellite. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  16. Welcome from the Ozark Mountains. If you are planning on selling it, list it here in the classified section. Be sure and read the classified rules before posting. Make sure you show a location for it. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  17. Now that's funny, I don't care who ya are. Debi I and the dogs sat out in the front yard in our meeting chairs through the whole eclipse. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  18. It looks like it would do a lot of work, provided the face is not detached and the ring is consistent & rebound is in the 60-70% range. Are there any markings on it to help with the maker. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  19. Here is a very interesting article about the Celtic Torc which was supposed to have magic and healing powers. https://www.worldhistory.org/article/1687/ancient-celtic-torcs/ I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  20. That is very nice. It is also called a Celtic torc which was said to have magical protection powers. https://www.worldhistory.org/article/1687/ancient-celtic-torcs/ I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  21. Absolutely brilliant, I love it. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  22. I was thinking a tire bender, seeing as the blacksmith is making horse shoes, the shop would also do wagon & carriage repairs. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  23. Before getting a 2X72 belt grinder I used the large sandstone wet grinding wheel, seen here to the right of the Star power hammer. It did a very good job although taking longer to accomplish what I wanted.
  24. This thread will give you a good idea on how to make charcoal, keeping in mind you can adapt what you have to make it work. "Charcoal," she retorted - Solid Fuels: Coal, Coke, Charcoal, Wood, etc - I Forge Iron I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  25. That should work well. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
