    Thomas, you are only a few miles and 2,000 feet lower in elevation to see lots of Maple trees. Guadalupe Mountains National Park, between El Paso and Carlsbad Caverns. I hiked there for a week one time and the vegetation was more like New England than Southern New Mexico. It about rained us out too. Rained heavily all but the first day. Wayne

    I was just trying to make sure that you read and understood the attachment. This is the very first time that I have had anyone have so much trouble understanding this attachment and my further instructions. Maybe if you call me I can make my self better understood.     PUT THE BLANKET IN, HOLDING BACK ABOUT 1/2" THEN CAST OVER IT, THEN APPLY THE IR PRODUCT. THE REFRACTORY COVERS THE BLANKET COMPLETELY.

    Read Build a Gas Forge attachment again. You hold the blanket back about 1/2" all the way around. The castable refractory will adhere to the metal and completely enclose the ceramic blanket. Let me know if I can help you again. Wayne

    You say that he does not have time to build a forge but to make any of the low priced forges useable he will still need to spend time casting the interior and applying an IR product (like Plistix or Metrikote). For the same amount of time and money invested he can build a better forge. Let me know if I can help you. Wayne

This attachment calls for 1" of ceramic blanket and 1/2" of Kast-0-Lite over coated with Metrikote or Plistix infrared reflective product.     The biggest mistake new blacksmiths make is to want a BIG forge. a 20# Propane tank is a good size. Let me know if I can help you. Wayne

    I have large pieces of cardboard (like washers and dryers come in) all over the floor in my shop for cushioning and to catch any oil or other liquids that might spill. If red hot iron lands on it it will scorch but I have never had more than that. Of course I do pick it right up, I don't just let it sit there. I have been doing this for over 10 years.     My mistake, Blacksmith Supply.com bought the rights to EuroAnvils several years ago but the last I heard was having trouble with the over seas caster so had the molds shipped to the US. But was having trouble finding anyone to cast them here at an acceptable price. I get a "Can't open site" message this morning. Big Blu worked at getting a similar anvil going but I have heard from them that has gone by the wayside.

    Any local welding supply store should have them in stock. I had a student that had built a burner using a standard mig tip and it did not work well. As soon as he replaced it with a T tip everything worked well. Let me know if I can help you. Wayne

    What you are calling a truckie hitch is called a teamsters hitch in the books that I have. I use it every time I tie any load. As Frosty said I always put an over hand knot on the upper loop otherwise the loop can fall over, untying the hitch, In north Georgia where there were truck loads of chickens being transported for processing it was called a "Chicken Knot". Now the main replacement is webbing and ratchet.

    When the groves are forged into the billet the spline of the knife shows the deformation and adds an additional feature, almost like decretive filing . The layers in a ground grove leaves the layers all in line.
