  1. well it could be some type of mechanical linkage off a rail car,or,a draw bar of some sort.but the price was right and it will never go out of date setting there waiting to be used.
  2. hey dave, i don't know your set up but.....maybe you could make a piece to fit under the hardy hole that is mounted on your stump ? may take some square tubing and hot fit your tool, and mount it under the hardy hole, that way it will keep the end from wobbeling. are you totaly confussed yet? if any questions pm me and i will try to explain better, jimmy
  3. well...lets see, IFI has been my school so thank all ya'll, excuse my memory ,but, i was told early on to "give out before you give up" and from sandpile,, forge thick and grind thin,i'm sure i will have outher things to add later on, but this is a start
  4. we are praying for ya'll, jimmy & mary
  5. i guess it could be all/none of those things but maybe the forge was mad because of not enough attention or the grimlins messing with you..but that is just a wasg......but seriously it might have been some moisture built up in the ash left in it let us know...jimmy
  6. well..i am my own worst critic, but i have redone/modified on them to be better or easier(flexability) is great, if it's for some one else then right or wrong it is their openion that matters (sometimes). but Mr. Dean is right.."there is no such thing as perfect"some times them "little goofs" are the thing that makes it better.
  7. welcome home little one we will contenue praying, jimmy
  8. motor oil around here, but up yonder when it gets cold you may use something like atf which is about 7 vis.
  9. well looks great.. but i have been told that if you have scratches and buff it you end up with shiney scratches. me personally i gibe it a never mind. if i can see myself it's ok with me.
  10. i read some where, on smaller springs they would wrap the spring with wire (after hardening) dip it in oil and set it on fire. when it burned out it was tempered. the text didn't gave any specifics about temper color, etc. so i just thought i'd throw this in the hat, jimmy
  11. sure nothing like the smell of coal and gun powder in the morning...
  12. well done! my oldest sis had a double about 5 years ago, she is "getting" by so i understand how ya'll are feeling. glad my sis was/is near as i have squamus cell( remission for about a year) that she is helping me cope with.god bless ya'll, jimmy
  13. great news, make a hand and be blessed, jimmy
  14. also there is no need to temper, unless you add the h/c bit to it
  15. well, not being a sord guy...i won't even attempt a responce. but a few months ago i had a "kid" wanting to forge a knife. well... i talked to his mother, and she gave premission. here's the deal- i asked him to draw me a picture of what he wanted to make. mostly for me to to pick his brain on designs and his vision of the "project". well after a week i asked him to show me his ideas. well the response was " i haven't done it" so it didn't take me long to properly inform him that this project is a done deal. and not to waste my time again.( i had gathered supplies and such already) but it comes down to i want it now with no thought, labor,or drive to see it through. i may have been a "little" irate and uncareing at that point, but i do sleep at night. i hope this didn't jade me on any future kids that really want to do it...
  16. i have a 4x36 i go from lowes for a 100$ but am limited to belt grits but it works well for me had it probobly 6-7 years now
  17. that looks great, but being the voice of reason i'd be worried about cleaning it. but that is just me,jimmy
  18. i sure don't know about planers, but i have made a draw knife out of 52100 and it works well. on the tempering i went light, so you have to make sure there isn't any nails and such that could hurt the blade
