  3. howdy..just my thoughts, i looks fine if ya don't need a deep fire. i have a hoss shoe or rivit forge that is about 2" deep, what i did was, take a piece of 14" casing,it is standing up and cut out a 4" slot front and back and it ended up about 5-6" deep, this may be a option or a movable accessory that you may consider. mine is not solid mounted it is just sealed in with wood ash from the fire.but it sure helps contain the heat, hope this helps, jimmy
  4. prayers from our home to ya'll.the good Lord is there with you so lean on him and each other.jimmy & mary
  5. well, being a ol rough hand we wear cotton gloves.one time i got the cuff caught on a bolt of the elevators and it was pretty beat up but not broke. so be careful with when and where you use em.with cotton ya pretty skeert so you are liable to rip it off and maybe save yourself.but i use one on the left tong hand.. so iffin any ya'll want the right side i got some. this is not to say don't use good leather ones i got them too, just use in the proper place. i shure hope i got ya throughly confussed.
  6. nice lookin lil fella, keep up the great work. jimmy
  7. another thing to concider. put some protection on the lines we have used some of the flat 2" discharge water hose on them for wear and whip arrest on hyd and air hoses. it ain't pretty but serves it's intended purpose.it will still make a mess but that's better than a very unfortunate incedent.it will not contain/control 3000# but as you know pressure will drop toalmost nothing on a large break. but watch out for pin holes as they will hurt you bad.
  8. maybe a dead rat? on a serious note, there shouldn't be any trouble if you don't heat the bucket up.personaly i use a 5 gal plastic bucket with a light plate in the bottom and change the H2O on a fairly regular bases
  9. when i am/was measuring fishing necks, etc. i used a caliper and "cut a inch" meaning i'd measure from the 1 inch mark instead of the very end. also when making long measurements i use the same tape.that way if it's a little off you end up with the same measrement
  10. hey folks i got a question that needs verafication. my uncle told me that a branding iron cannot be a closed circle, letter, etc. because it would sear all the capularies in the skin and the "circle" would rot out..any truth to this? thanks jimmy
  11. hey KB, i understand the medical bean counters... i was layed off for 13 months when diagnosed with cancer. and the insurence i could of kept would have cost way more than we could aford on unemp. but they did take care of me. we talked to hospatal hr folks and help me with ssi disability and some hospital programs to reduce/cover some of the procedures.although the never ending phone calls and letters is dis heartning, don't let it discourage you from getting help, you only have 1 body ya know.well enough of this, hope some of it will help ya, jimmy

  21. well i ain't no expert but....here's a nickel's worth of free advise...bevel both sides, lay in stringers at short lenghs on both sides to help prevent warping, then sew it up in segments. also brush/grind well between each pass. also if using 7018 push the weld instead of dragging it..it will make a flatter weld. hope this helps. jimmy
