I know I'm a little late but I made this for my wife on Christmas eve. It took 8 1/2 hours but I finished wiping it down at 11:50. My wife was happy with it as evinced by the first thing out of here mouth, "Aw Tony, I want to sell it!" The highest form of praise from her. This was my first attempt at twist using a forge instead of a torch and I wasn't ready for how much harder it is. I intended for a bit of asymetry but not to have no two twist come out the same. I'll obviously have to work on that. Any suggestions/advice/comments/criticisms are welcome. Thanks for looking.

Here is a picture of a handrailing I made a few months ago. The pictures got lost somewhere in the computer. 2 handrails were made only one was installed when the pictures were taken. I did not paint this and more work has been done on the paint job since this picture was taken and it looks much better now, not such solid coloring.

Hey guys I wanted to share a piece of art with you. The turtle started out as old rusty 8" pipe. I had just gotten a new cutting torch and was trying to rid my self of some of the scrap metal in my back yard. I shined it up with sanding pads and colored it with a cutting torch. Would like a little feed back when you get the time. Peter

hey my moms birthday is comin up and she is looking at iron garden sculptures. i think they could be quite easily made with just half inch square stock, so no problems there. but the ones she likes have a very vibrant orange rust to them that doesn't seem to get worse. any suggestions on how to get a controlled rust, and then stop it? thx

Well after all these years as an industrial Blacksmith making tools, I have slowed down enough to stop and "make" a rose. My daughters anniversary is this month and I wanted to give her something different this year and decided to try a rose. This is my first attempt and it turned out fairly well I think.

I just picked up 36 lengths of 1/2 X 24 copper tubing for a song and am trying to think of some projects to make with these... I already am thinking about wind chimes and I seem to remember a project with cattails and tulips. I am looking forward to hearing and better yet seeing some of your ideas!!! Thanks Steve

Greetings metal people. Here are some pics of a recent project. I'm still still trying to get my shop set up to do the blacksmithing side of work that I'd like to do, so for now my work only emulates what I hope to create in the future using traditional smithing techniques. Hopefully there will be some nicely hammer textured work in my next pictures. Thanks to every one for posting their techniques and work.

This is my sea themed foutain. It consist of 3 tube sea enenemies and 1 clam at the bottom. Unfortunatly the finish isnt lasting and its begining to rust, so this peice gets to stay part of my personal collection. Next time I am going to be using copper or aluminium for a fountain regular carbon steel isn't cutting it even with several coats of paint. This fountain has that spray on stone as its final coat.

Here is a light I finished not too long ago. It was designed and built with the north in mind. I have spent a lot of my time in the north of Canada and define it in my own mind as the pine trees and the northern lights which I have tried to capture in this lamp. It is 28" high. Enjoy!

These are the latest railings i was asked to collaborate on with a blacksmith friend and colleague Matthew Brown of MB Blacksmiths. They were made for a local church in Seaton Carew on the North east coast of England.

I learned two newe things recently. The first was how to make a mule-head from a horseshoe. I had the privelege to work at the NC State Fair a few weeks ago and had the greater privelege to work with a gentleman by the name of Don Dillon. If I have my story straight, Don's family is the benefactor and builder of the smithy at the state fairgrounds. Also, Don is either third or fourth generation blacksmith. I was a true joy and honor to get to work with him. I asked Don if I could help him make a mulehead and when we finished, he told me to get a "shoe". I started the process of straightening it out, and when I looked up, he was walking away. There were also 20-…

I got the idea of making a fountain from a road trip I took with a few freinds about a month ago. We were driving back from Giant City State Park in southern Illinois and came across a small "hippy" town on the way back. We saw 2 men playing a bango and acordian and pulled in. After about 20 minute of looking around we found our way to a shed where I found a man making fountains out of copper using leaf shapes. He also had an amazing display of bugs and dragons and other figures in the garden area behind the shop all cut out of sheet metal and formed to shape. Well, I finally got around to making a fountain of my own it has 3 roses tig welded onto a 1/2 steel tube…

There is a funny message reminding me I haven't posted for a while so here is something I don't think I have posted. It is the first panel of 6 in a garden gazebo or arbour or whatever it's called. Also a test rose for the next panel which will be climbing roses then I'm out of ideas for the rest. Maybe grow real plants on them. Ray
