Stitch
Nice job! Those low stamped handles are a pain for sure! I tried out my new mini 6" H.F. chop saw and was really amazed at how well it performed! I made some 5 degree cuts in 1-1/4" sq. x 3/16" tubing for the knife maker anvil legs and a cut a couple of the hammer bits. Great deal at $34.00 with a 25% off coupon. Looks like I'm going to have a few extra ends for fullers to give away.

The BOA meeting is something made from a wrench for the trade item. It was fun and with more practice they should get better. Glad you were inspired. I've done a few cat spanner hooks now and they are always popular with the kids. I like punching the eye circles so that they overlap the edge of the spanner jaws. Makes them look devious. genesaika
@Stitch do you think that saw could be used for plunge cuts in the middle of stock?

ThomasPowers
Of course if it's for another smith a little squirt of WD40 would probably work as well...

ausfire
You do beautiful roses, Das. They will bring a good price for the benefit. I don't do many roses these days. They take a long time - too long for demos. I like the way you have included thorns on the stems. Nice touch.
Jim Coke
Greetings Das, A friend of mine here in Michigan sells a nice set of rose blanks on EB for 10.50 a set. You might look into it . I think it is a good price and if you contact him you might get a better price on bulk. Good Luck Forge on and make beautiful things Jim
Kevin Olson
Heres a little branding iron. My buddy saws his own lumber and wanted a touch mark for certain boards. Heats up nicely with a hand torch.
JHCC
Did some bits of welding on the portable hole and some other jigs and tools (until I ran out of flux-core, that is). Definitely getting better at grinding. Also, since I’m not firing up the forge today but need some pieces of leaf spring annealed for drilling and grinding, I took advantage of a nice hot fire in the fireplace. I found it easier to use trimmings from the leaf stems and just bulk them up a bit with weld now. Roses are a little time consuming but they are guaranteed sellers and still easier then forging a knife. thanks Jim, I'll keep that in mind if I get the cash and want to do a bulk run. ausfire
Das, you're right about roses being top sellers, but they certainly don't return the hours you put in. (Not that that is always the most important thing.) They take too long for demos though. In the past I have partly done a few at home and finished them off during demo time. The roses look good emerging from the forge glowing red as you curl the petals over. I will pinch your idea for thorns if you don't mind. And do you rivet (or peen over) the stem to the petals, or is there a touch of MIG in there??
Daswulf
Feel free Aus. I do agree they are not demo friendly time wise. Oh if we could keep that beautiful red that the petals get while shaping them without painting em.

ThomasPowers
and here I was just searching on rose thorn images to double check my faulty memory... Anyone else think of the Masochism Tango when seeing those?
JHCC
If you’re ever making roses for a Roman Catholic fundraiser, leave the stems smooth. In medieval Western European art, the “rose without thorns” is a symbol of the Virgin Mary. 7 minutes ago, ThomasPowers said: Anyone else think of the Masochism Tango when seeing those? Of course!
