What Would Your Anvil Say?

Featured Replies

Time to have some fun here.

If your anvil(s) could talk to you, what would it(they) say to you today?

Mine:  "Hey, I'm feeling a little unloved right now when are you going to spend some quality with me?"

My three are close enough right now to be whispering to each other. I'm sure Hay Budden is jealous that Trenton gets all fun while the Mousehole is just waiting for me to take her out to a demo.

If mine could talk, a verbatim transcript would likely get me banned from here.

What the [seven further paragraphs redacted] was that??? Who the [deleted explicit] taught you to swing a [beeeeppppp] hammer

Daswulf - Now that's funny

Viking - Yeah, mind would be saying that too at times.

How bad do I have to be to get a GOOD beating?

Frosty The Lucky.

Lol iron. Mine were the same way. Now they say " oh no, he's been drinking again! This might hurt!"

The first five things I thought my anvil might say would have gotten me banned.  This thread is bound to get someone in trouble.

Speaking of which...my anvil would likely say, “strap me down ...this sand isn’t doing if for me.”

"Kohlswa - wa - wa. *Sniff*.  Buddy, you jam that drift in my pritchel hole one more time and I'm not giving it back!"

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I have not done any forging in awhile...

Mine's giving me the silent treatment at the moment. Hopefully, she'll get over it soon...I mean, "what'd I do?"

My soderfors is too busy tossing ball bearings through the roof to do any talking.

"I had it good on the road  what did I do to deserve this idiot".  Still using a back hoe hammer bit as main anvil.

I saw my 1st anvil the other day at my dad's shop and she wouldn't even look at me after I replaced her.  I suspect she was an ASO anyways and once I saw that beautiful German Trenton, well she went back where I borrowed her.  I thought about bringing her back home, but oh the jealousy and fighting that might ensue from the workshop.

" If you hit me with that hammer one more time I'm going to fall on your toes"  "I set out here in the cold all winter while you were in Sunny Warm Florida, and now you are home I'm suppose to welcome you and let you beat on me. I don't think so!"

Having been informed of my desire to become President, it would sound a bit like Brisbane. "And all you turned out to be was a punk blacksmith?! OHHHHHHH!!!!! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!" (I am, however, not a blacksmith.)

Most anvils are purchased used. Most of those anvils have been well cared for by their previous owners, and look forward to providing years of service to the new owners. All they require is a hot metal message and a bit of a rub down with light oil at the end of the day. In return they will try to teach you those blemishes are actually features, and other things the previous owners did. If you are gentle, loving, and show the anvil your appreciation, they will in return help you make money.

If the anvil were to get fussy, then shut down the shop and walk away. Come back when your in a better mood, because it is not the anvils fault. My anvil is patient between visits, knowing that I have a life outside the smithy. When I arrive it is always ready to go to work. It wants to know what we are making today and how it can help with the project. We work together. With each project it provides the best service that it can. In return, I provide a rub down with light oil at the end of the day, and a thank you for helping me.

In general the signs of wear on an anvil's face add character to it and if you talk to the best character actors they will tell you that the imperfections on their faces are like money in the bank once you know how to use them...

Come on guys, did you miss the theme of this thread? What would your ANVIL say to you? We already know what you have to say about your anvil and most of us who've used one for a while tend to agree.

Get with the game, this is supposed to be a fun thread, not a testimonial.

Some people <SHEESH>

Frosty The Lucky.

"NOT another expletive deleted S hook!"

"Get those ham fisted students away from me!"

"Another road trip????"

"Who's the new anvil; wasn't I good enough for you?"

Ahhh, that's more like it. Feel better now don't you? ;)

Frosty The Lucky.

“Whenever I get hammered you’re hitting on me!  Its hardy funny and I’m fullered of it!”
