  7. come the day you do repair that anvil I would use 7018 arc rod Or a better rod for that 110-18 same rod just better ! No reason to have a welder Tig it for a root pass Prep as suggested earlier on this page weld some on one side then flip weld some on the other side continue doing that till done Steve's Welding & Fab
  8. Hawk where in southern Or are you ? northern Ca on the coast just bellow the Or line here
  9. YES I am slowly changing out all the 4' florescent lights in my welding & fab shop x about 35 + units the one's I am working with run on 110 V SO that mean's you must take the old transformers & change out the end fixtuer's to the smaller T-8 size & re-wire them for 110 Volt Not all fixture's can be rebuilt !! & yes you can buy new ends / small that the LED fit @ electrical supply store my bulb's are 2000. Lum - 5000 color = Daylight - 18 watts - 2 Led row strip type & Clear plastic covering = Bright !! NOT Frosted ! I have 2 - 4 bulb units over my welding table WHAT a Change !!! = Happy camper ! I can see WOW a day or so back now I had a LED salesman @ the shop to see if there was a better way to light up the shop he had some bulb's that will work on the old electronic fixture's like the one's I got out of cosco I have a lot of those !! & they were just a tad brighter $15.00 per they are single Led row strip type so you just take out old florescent & replace with Led Done mite go that way still thinking on what next ? I built my shop as a truck shop Long time ago with 16' ceiling"I could back then bring in a Log truck to weld on & close the door's WOW not no more to much Eqt LOL I have a 150 watt spot light Led I am testing up in the 16"' ceiling right over the anvil area we will see how I like that Idea ?? Only down side I see is people say thats to bright to look @ Hay stupid don't look @ the light Look @ what you're working on ! there's my 4 cent worth I hope this help's someone out Steve's Welding & Fab Also shop celling light wire set up is 8 zone's + on/off & over wired LOL + @ Eqt lights are on a string pull switch on/off so No light's are on in area not being used Other than the Safety lights so you don't run into eqt & other stuff
  10. I stand next to the coke forge tending fire & then answer the phone & BURN Up my work So Leave a Voice massage next time LOL !!! I also keep many pieces in the forge so there's No down time ! until I am done the forge has a fan on a foot switch for control on/off works well no hands needed also I can set it up to where you must stand on the switch to keep fan going That's for the newbie's to save coal Pandora here to cranked Up so I can here it over the PH noise with my ear protection on speakers above PH facing the worker

  15. what I have seen done over the years for a fix like that is find an old Lg Ox tank cut the bottom off & use that for the fire pot that means cutting out the bad fire box then welding or using bolting tabs & attach it to the forge thatS cast iron A PAIN to work with !! you can braze it thats the better Idea or with the right arc rod weld it not so easy ! a plasma will cut cast iron real nice I have done that on mine witch has the same problem ! pan in Good Shape fire pot Not !! other idea find a cast iron fire pot & fab that to you"re forge pan that what i did GOOD Luck Steve's Welding & Fab
  16. If you put where you're @ on you're profile there mite be a smith close to you ?
  17. NOW that's a Leg vice WOW !! that would go good with my 3" tc 5' x 9' outside weld table though my forklift would more than likely run away from home it doesn't like moving the weld table much LOL & its 8000 lb forklift
  18. ITS to cold heat it up again LOL then Hit it - No that's wimpy Harder #@%$ Ho don't grab that its Hot use the tongs that's what there for if you ding my anvil I will Ding you're head Oops
  19. Ok most anvils i see this done to they use hard face on the edges with Bad! penetration some of it is chipping off the anvil done by Want-a Be welders ,can we say shrapnel I can take a hammer & brake a piece off!! also is it wear or in pack hard face ?? Or ? there are many kinds of hard face most folks don't know that ! when I worked @ a rock crusher & asphalt plant as a maintenance welder I did alot of hard facing on all sorts of Eqt & rolls stick & wire I take care when repair welding anvils right !! they end up looking & working like new I have done over a hundred or so now a days & not one unsatisfied customer !! & years later i see that anvil again & ck it out to see how my work is doing ! they all have very little wear & some are in High school metal shops that says something ! also have anvils in x 5 or more in a blacksmith school those were the first i did along !!! time ago I see them & ck them every year & the still in good shape I repaired 2 PW #300 free for are schools metal shop here even with the Kids beating them up there still in good shape And Thank You Rod G !
  20. Another Fix all rod I see for anvil repair is hard facing rod NOT the right rod to use but folks still do ! you can take a scribe and try to scratch the weld SS will scratch easily hard face will not Steve's Welding & Fab
  21. WOW thats a start from scratch RE-do fab job on that trailer, looks like you replaced or reworked every piece of steel on it ! thats a lot of fab time Well Done !! just looking @ that much work tiered me out !!!!!!!!! Steve's Welding & Fab
  22. I keep my welding table's painted with a cheap thin coat of red oxide primer paint that does a few things #1 it keeps rust down on the table #2 it keeps the wire feed welding from sticking all those little bits AND #3 it make a LG great drawing board !! & set up for copying Hot work designs
  23. For Marking Hot metal I was showed by Mark A along time ago to make a square pointed center punch you can see the mark well @ heat much better than a round center punch !
