noto if you have to sharpen youre shovels In MY book that means you need to hire someone eles to use IT !! LOL as for handles on them I have replaced all wood one's I brake all the time with EMT elec conduit a good coat of red oxide primer & there Done leave out in the rain all year hammer handles lin seed oil & turp 3 to 1 if I remember right -- paint heads flat black with clear coat No rust looks good to easy to redo when needed ! same trick for all the anvils to

are you Sure ! its cast Iron have you ck = tested ? one way to ck is with cutting torch if it cuts then its not cast iron & thats Better ! looks like cast steel hard to say from the pic though if its cut able then you have some good stock supply PS --- a lot of folks don't know one type of metal from the other !!!! happens to me all the time -- well its steel on the phone then turns out its really Aluin @ the shop My Rule #1 Bring to shop let me see it !! then I can tell How ? to deal with it ! -
LOL Jim I will stick with 1 shop Stuff as it is the heating bill is better & the walk from one shop to the next & back LOL & then witch shop would my wolfs park there bu-t by the wood stove LOL

Yea Hammer control LOL !!! Ouch LOL another one to ck out is Mark Aspery sp ? every smith or carpenter needs to understand hammer control ! = how to use a hammer ! this can of nails / worms is talked in many threads often here -- watch & listen and then practice with a 2x4 & nails you will get the swing of it & the grip hopefully -

welding supply biss they can get any temp you need if you need to KNOW a certain temp like say 350 degs I would get a 350 & a 300 temp stick once the 300 melts you know youre very close to 350 degs -
that is a high carbon cast steel tooth -- you mite get away with 110-18 or better arc rod pre & post heat a must ! weld will want to shrink pulling away from tooth = crack / cool slowly 100% weld they are bolted or pined in I have had to weld them in when tooth bracket is badly worn sooner or later weld gives

another good drawing broad set up I use for layout work is a 4' X 8' white wall board the kind you see bathrooms it cleans up easily & Dry erase markers will work on it well ! I have one on the shop wall in the work area with a list of shop goals to get done - eqt repair needed - paying jobs supply's needed to order & so on PS -- Joel if you can't draw a scale you need to take an ART class Ha just had to -

we have a few car body sheet metal tools here I just weld /Tig a hardie end 1"x1" sq on them & use there shape to from stuff off of some I welded 2 hardie ends on them so I can stand it up or lay it down as needed on the anvil THAT'S thinking Outa the box !!! I never have seen anyone else do that it gives you two tools for the price of one PS -- All my hardie tools are 1" & fit my 4 anvils I have so NO making the same hardie tool to fit the other anvil !

Hay Thomas for doing what kind of industrial use ??? Heat treat ? or what ? always wanted to know that -- still seams if a school has a forge its a Johnson trench forge I tried for years to get the weld shop to buy a better forge !!! finely just gave up just didn't want to spend around $700.-- or so woun't let me modify forge witch I can understand that so they use as is with short tongs You JUST can't fix dumb BUT THANK GOD !!!!!!!!!!! we still have shops class here !!!!!!1

I have mine set up with a trailer hitch plug in & the receiver is under my LG welding table tha wont move plug unit also works for Beverly shear & other bender tooling very convenient !! & another benefit there all portable to job site if needed just need the truck -
are High school welding shop has a Johnson forge just like that & A Pain to work with !!! you have to use welder glove just to get @ steel - me not as bad, But the Kids not a good forge for a school to easy to get arm hairs burnt or worse an idea I saw on the web was someone cut the front sheet metal piece off & instead of putting steel in from the top they put it in from the front had better control that way & it looked like a good fix I have No Idea why those forges are design like they are ??? don't care for them much they look like they would be great for plate heating I just never tried that yet ???

cowboy I think you mite have the COE No#s backward ?? IF I remember right ??? Soft glass is 104 COE & must be cooled in a Kiln or it brakes !! Boro or pyrex is 96 COE you can let it cool down by its self THOUGH it will have High stress then boro & copper are about the same COE I have formed boro on copper rods as a test piece No kiln & it stayed together = test leafs --- have to try a cross now that I have colored glass rods one of my projects is to make a kiln this year !!!!!!

WELL Finely 2015 is done with !! HAPPY New Year TO ALL !!-- I had 2 weeks off from home & drove 2000 + miles to the other end of Ca & back sure glad to be back @ home in rural Ca !!!!!!!!!!!!!!again -- now I remember why I left the BIG city again !!!!!! trip down south was not good !!! but made it there & back in ONE piece barely lol thanks to the powers that be !! starting the year out with a month of work needed to be done yesterday like 2015 1 thats good right ? LOL Friday 1-1-2016 shop forge day got called off wanted to start the year off right darn ! well are old weather is back !!! been raining most of 4 months now IS summer here yet want to dry out some LOL ** SO WHATS you're goals for 2016 ??? I am reworking my list now LOL looks like alot of tooling +
