  1. You work wrought iron very hot, way above orange, think welding heat for mild steel high yellow.
  2. No problem storing propane outdoors unless the temperature drops to -45 degrees F. If you are going to run the propane forge inside the garage, make sure you have several working CO detectors. Is there heat in the garage?
  3. It's hard to beat the stink of a coal fire in the morning, I love it.
  4. Travis... welcome to IFI. I always suggest reading this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST It covers using the quote feature and will keep you off the moderators radar. You might also edit your profile to show your location because so many answers require knowing where in the world you are located.
  5. Irondragon Forge & Clay Works. Because we both like dragons and I forge a lot of them from horse shoes. The Clay Works part is because my wife is a potter (and good at it).
  6. Stop by tool rental places & big box home improvement stores. See if they have any worn out jack hammer bits they would be willing to donate or sell cheap. They make good hammers and other tools.

  9. Maybe because you would have to overcome the spring with every hammer blow, a lot of wasted energy there (just a thought).
  10. Welcome to IFI... anvil prices have gone up considerably lately. Where are you located now because there are several members looking and they may be close to you. We won't remember this once leaving this post, hence the suggestion to edit your profile to show location. This thread will help getting the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST
  11. Chris you did a good job, forged it so thin I can't see it.
  12. Have you been looking over my shoulder? I wish I could teach, but I'm afraid my short attention span gets in the way. Right now I'm taking a break from the forge to cool off and drink some water with a Medi-Lyte pill. I'm making a handled cup holder for my wife. She has this 32 ounce cup that's hard to hold. It's not that hot but really muggy today and I'm sweating like it's 100°F out there.

  15. Very well done, thanks for sharing with us. I had to go to settings and run it at 240p but no big deal ( kept stalling at 360p) .
  16. We usually roll our belt grinder outside for the light and keeping the grinding dust out of the shop. When we can't use it outside there are LED shop lights overhead that provide plenty of light.
  17. She is a good candidate for Robb Gunther and Karl Schuler's anvil repair . https://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/16998-robb-gunther-and-karl-schuler39s-anvil-repair-process/
  18. On the bright side it teaches ya balance. This brought back memories of my mother. She always said "hind sight is always 20/20" to me when I was a teenager. I haven't thought of that in decades, thanks Jennifer.

  21. That will work and hot steel hammered on the face will shine it right up. You can put boiled linseed oil where the wire wheel cleaned it up to protect it.
  22. This covers it pretty well. https://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/61585-deadening-a-smaller-anvil/ You are absolutely correct.
