  1. I doubt you will get an answer seeing as ah1998 hasn't been on the forum since 12/02/2013.
  2. We used fumed super glue to help develop fingerprints. I can say that the fumes are "nasty". Or as others say toxic.
  3. Looks like your Buffalo forge is restorable. I would start with a 50/50 mix of trans fluid and acetone (good penetrating oil) to free up the rusted parts. I always suggest reading this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST
  4. Welcome to IFI... have you read this yet? It will help you get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST
  5. Usually Hay Budden anvils have the weight in pounds stamped into them under the Brooklyn NY stamp. Mine has 106 there and verified by my shop scales.
  6. My wife has always accused me of communicating by grunting. After she has attended a couple of years of BOA meetings, she has picked up on the dialog and says it's a blacksmith thing. I'm an introvert and she's an extrovert and sometimes will say about herself " I'm talking and can't shut up".
  7. We have had some really interesting large clinkers that my wife wanted to turn into art, as of yet we haven't found anything that would prevent them from crumbling into tiny little pieces. Tried spray on clear coat...failed, Decoupage/Mod-Podge...failed, polyurethane...failed, short of completely encasing it in epoxy don't know how to preserve it.
  8. Pretty good looking 119 pound Peter? Wright in the pictures. The edge damage is common and the sway can work to your advantage when straightening stock. I don't see any deep gouges in the fact to worry about. BTW Welcome to IFI...
  9. Welcome... I suggest reading this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST
  10. I would look for brass/bronze I've found many pieces that were large enough to cut down for bolsters & guards. Usually come from large electrical boxes.
  11. Even if the voices aren't real, they have some really good ideas. (one of my favorite sayings)
  12. Welcome to IFI, I always suggest reading this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST You have a very good condition Hay Budden, hope you have read about not grinding, milling or welding on the hardened face.

  14. Hi Beaudry...have you read this yet? READ THIS FIRST It will help with getting the best out of the forum. I think your thread may be moved to Forges/Bellows & Blowers to get more responses.
  15. Yep, but once it's at right temperature it moves like butter.
  16. You can get all that at most pottery supply stores.
  17. Jim may not have used the term "nasty" that's why I paraphrased it, to me in the forge/fire nasty is toxic/dangerous.
  18. Hi Doc, welcome to the insanity. Are you interested in blacksmithing? I see you are in Fayettnam lots of smith's in our area. You might want to read this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST
  19. I have read several threads that JPH (Jim Hrisoulas) has posted about his Steel Glue Flux. In every one he advises that it is (to paraphrase) nasty stuff and should only be used with proper PPE and plenty of ventilation.
  20. My wife has made several of Kens tongs and she draws the reigns out round. Gives her a little more length which is nice to keep the hand holding them farther from the dragons breath of her propane forge.
  21. LOL a State Trooper that worked in our county did about the same thing. He found a huge hornet nest (about the size of a foot ball) while working a wreck. He slid a trash bag over the nest and tied it tight around the limb then cut the limb off. He put it in his heated garage and figured the wasps would die. Well when he opened the bag about a month later, it took the wasps about 30 seconds to take possession of his garage.
  22. Just keep in mind flux is not glue, it will not stick the steel together only help to keep it clean.
  23. To me it would all depend on my inspection, what the face sounds like and rebound. To me a fair distance is about a three hour drive. At $2 a pound sounds like that's a good price depending on condition. What does it weigh?
