  1. COOL! Welcome Joe, I am in South East New York.
  2. Ah, if the wife is happy, then she will be more supportive oif your smithing endeavors. I really do wish I could have a business, where I can fly and or drive to other smiths/prospective smiths, and help get them started. Building forges is SO easy, as is assembling all the basic tools.
  3. All right! Way to join together as a community!
  4. Sweet! I like how your horse's head is longer. Ever hear the joke: A horse walks into a bar, and the bartender says "Hey, why the long face?". I love it!
  5. Why is a bench grinder not good for working wood? I agree it won't give a smooth finish(hehe) but are there other non cosmetic reasons?
  6. You could inlay the designs into the blades themsleves, like made out of silver wire maybe. Smoothing the edges on the handles would make it more comfortable too.
  7. Like the Transformer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go bumblebee GO!!!!!!!!!!! So what is the deal Mr. Lowe? You travel all over and meet up with blacksmiths all over the world?

    One of mine

Gorgeous, GORGEOUS knife Victor, the hamon looks well defined, but is hard to see in the pictures, but I can just make it out, and it looks great too!
  9. Yo, New York blacksmith Sam Salvati here, glad to meet you Ludo.
  10. COOL! Looks uncomfortable though, you can use the bench grinder to smooth out the handle corners, as well as take the face of that hammer to the side of thw grinding wheel as that is flat and will grind the face cleaner.
  11. Gorgeous shop though, you guys know how to build one! I have a few questions though, how do you get around insurance for the building, and insurance for people in the building?
  12. Is it me or is a helve hammer ALOT more dangerous than say a Little Giant style power hammer, or an air hammer?
  13. Daggers, were not meant really to go against armor, not that kind of dagger at least. Daggers were kind of an everyday tool, carried when it was not really practical to carry a sword. Daggers that were meant to peirce armor, maille mostly, were pretty much big non-edged spikes, with hardened points. A nice dagger like that would be used at the table, and at many other everyday tasks. Nice work.
  14. Cool, but don't you run the risk of chipping it more if the hamon is bigger? I do gree though a hamon that is big, BIG, looks alot better. If you want, you could just send me that knife, you know, if you want (hehe).
  15. Cool, if I am evere OUT IN MONTANA, I'll hit you up. Welcome.
  16. I would do like those corrugated roofs, with the little clear sections you can do, but on the walls, so that they go up a wall and over the roof and down the other side. That would be SOME ambient light, of course I would also have to build the shop si the side walls are East to West, to maximise the effect. It would also help during the winter with heating, maybe.
  17. How far is Carlisle from New York? The border I mean, I am right on the PA NY border, about 45 minutes from Honesdale. I would to do that propane forge class! Ever hear of the Northeast Blacksmith's Association Ladysmith?
  18. Sweet stuff, I think a good name for that second one down would be a boukri, a bowie mixed with a kukhri, as it has that koukhri curve with a closer to bowie shape.
  19. Pretty sweet, from spine to edge that is the weld line contrast where they meet, then the hamon?
