I am as guilty as anyone of dropping by harbor frieght. Always hoping to find a deal. But other than Goodyear air hose and a cheapy bender I haven't bought much and yesterday I got a reminder why. In 1986 I bought a top of the line cut off saw for $120.00 dollars at the local tool supply(pre harbor freight). I have used that saw continuously since then and hate to think of all the metal it's cut. I went to the local tool shop (pre and post harbor frieght) yesterday and got a new set of brushes and a new brush cap for $11.36 and once agian the saw runs like new. This is only the third set of brushes in 21 years. I can live with that. You get what you pay for. JWB

Just wanted to Thank all the Friends who just had to remind me that I have added another year of harassing the smiths on this site. I guess that's what you would call getting even. LOL But, just so you will know its Woody's Birthday too. He didn't add his special day to his profile. I guess he just doesn't want to be reminded, besides with all the candles he needs to put on the cake, the top has to be reinforced to prevent collapse. Happy Birthday, Woody and enjoy the day.

I am putting the 2x8 Deck down on my new 18' trailer. The crossmembers are 2"x2"x1/4"wall tubing. Does anyone know of a good self-tapping screw that will do the job or should I go with 1/4'x4" bolts and drill clear thru the tubing? Any advice is appreciated. JWB

GREAT IDEA: Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies. This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation ion. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it wit…

I know to many this doesnt seem appropriate to post here, but I thought at least in the off topic it might have a small part. I found a link to a site which is currently researching the genetic manupulation of the American chestnut tree. They are currently expecting to be able to present these seeds for sale to the public in 5-15 years. Seems like a long time off, but it would be interesting to see my son or grandson forging out under the beautiful chestnuts. Just in case any of you are interested. The American Chestnut Foundation As a side note the trees they currently have for sale are not modified but the current blight succeptable ones.

  12. We all use railroad spikes to make various things. Most of us have a source for them, that is somewhat cheap. (READ: We walk the tracks and pick them up). Well, I was perusing my favorite online auction site, and ran across this auction eBay: Railroad Spike (item 300063180979 end time Jan-01-07 22:20:53 PST) Anyone interested in making something out of this one had better jump on it, as I think I may have to bid on it. ;)

What on earth is happening to the weather. Here we are, middle of December; temperatures in the forties on some days and in the thirties on average; Stage 3 water restrictions about to come into force after seven years of drought... you can only drink beer now, water is banned; a bushfire that's burnt for the last two weeks has blackened 3 million acres and raised a score of houses, and we get SNOW, yes snow on Christmas day. What next.

Today I had a wonderful oppurtunity that doesn't come to a person often. I had the chance to be a part of history. On April 28th 2005 a arsonist burnt down the covered bridge in Bridgeton Indiana. It was built in 1865 and has been a part of my life since I was a kid. This spring the rebuilding of the bridge began. With a mixture of fundings private, goverment and charity fund raisers the bridge is being rebuilt. Last week the bride an I rode over to see how it was going and a man there said they needed volunteer help. Today I was there at 7 am to see if I could help. I spent the day working side by side with other volunteers and the contract help building the bridge. I h…
