Justin Topp
My other one has the tip fall off so here’s the replacement hammer eye punch. Should work decently. Although it’s not super pretty
Justin Topp
Made a chipping hammer. Handle is mild steel and the head is 4140. Handle is hammered down a bit to take of points so that it’s comfortable to hold. Sitting on the 8” leg vise. Which I still have yet to mount haha
JHCC
Thanks, Justin. I've been thinking about making one of these (especially since I just got a stick welder), and now I've got some ideas percolating in my head....
Justin Topp
There’s about a million styles to make! I want to make more just to have a reason to experiment with twisting things
Chelonian
Looks really nice! I made one a while ago but it was not very nice. I need to make a better one at some point.

Justin Topp
Ages ago when I made knives someone asked for one. So I finally got around to doing it. I remember why I quit making them though haha. It’s 1095 with wrought iron jacket. The parts where iron reaches the edge have thin enough iron that it won’t affect it once sharpened

Anachronist58
Lovely work. Thirty-six pages, Man, am I behind the times! Robert Taylor
Justin Topp
Thanks! Yea it’s gotten a bit long. I’ve considered making another one but there are some really long discussions here so it’s fine probably. It’s for me to look back on if nothing else. jlpservicesinc
Over the years I have amassed thousands of photos of my work. Once I got to a certain point I stopped taking photos as un important. I wish now I continued to take photos because it was not only some of my finest forge work, but for the record of history. 36pages is excellent. It's great watch the progress. Robert, it does happen fast.. Good read for sure.
Justin Topp
Dinner triangle made for a friend. Need to give it an oil finish than it’s good to go.
Goods
Good job bending on the diagonal and the upset on the end of the striker is a nice touch. David

Bonnskij
Is it mild or another alloy? How's the sound? (I've been wanting to make a triangle for my kids).
Justin Topp
It’s just mild. I’ve heard higher carbon steels are better but this one works perfectly fine so I’m not worried about it
Bonnskij
Thanks. Good to know. I've heard higher carbon has more of a ring to it as well, so I was wondering,
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
It's been my experience that the high carbon dinner triangles have a sharper ring higher note than mild, but both will make a racket.
Frosty
The harder the steel the higher the speed of sound through it making the tone higher. You can get a higher tone from mild steel triangles by quenching the corners from critical. Mild doesn't have enough carbon to harden appreciably but enough to sharpen the tone of a triangle noticeably. Frosty The Lucky.
jlpservicesinc
Cold forging too.. Tuning a triangle is part of the fun.. I be thinking..
