  1. Are you running it with the chokes closed like it looks in the picture? If so may not be getting enough air in the fuel mixture.
  2. Ok that explains it. Good job on the heater system too.
  3. I thought the same thing, must have a large draw to freeze two 45kg (99lb U.S) pound tanks. Wonder if just one 90kg tank would freeze up?
  4. Yes, that's because like Frosty said due to a forum update and so many of the old members are not around any longer to put the pictures back in if they even still have them.
  5. If you go to thrift stores with your wife and you both spend all the time there, looking through all the containers for old carbon steel knives and butchers steel's.
  6. In one dresser drawer, I have underwear over 20 years old, never know when ya might need them in an emergency.
  7. It's looking good, just a little more refining and dressing should do it.
  8. Just wondering how you're doing on getting the blower running.
  9. Probably have a better chance at seeing a Unicorn.
  10. Did the tip you received put a link to the Craig's list add? If not that is the difference as direct links are not allowed. I got dissed for putting a link to something in Anvil fire, not knowing Anvil fire does not allow links to their site. All the hullabaloo is about putting links to sites that are advertising stuff for sale like Craig's List, Etsy, eBay, Amazon etc. which are not allowed like it or not, I see the reasoning behind the rule.
  11. Why not get one and give us a review then.
  12. Yep, especially cutting the container down, should make a fine forge body.
  13. Not only us, seems the current pandemic and society in general has everyone on a short fuse.
  14. Welcome aboard... There is a good thread Read This First, that has a lot of tips about getting the best out of the forum It's up in the blue banner and as a sticky in most sub forums. Don't know if you have seen it but you probably have seen my posts about it in other threads. Most first posts like yours go into the Introduce Yourself sub forum. There is a sub forum about Show Me Your Anvil Stands and there are some good ideas about mounting sledge hammer heads in it.
  15. How long are the reigns of your tongs, maybe think about extending them some. I have one pair of tongs with short reigns and can't use them with the gas forge. The rest of the tongs have long enough reigns that unless I take way too long getting the stock my hand just gets warm but not uncomfortable. The best solution would be to build an air curtain for the forge.
  16. I looked at Origin Blade complete grinders and they use a different tension set up that hinges and the wheel is farther forward than your sliding tensioner, could be the difference.
  17. In the old days we used to take salt tablets but now my doctor recommended Medi-Lyte tablets and I carry a few packets when it's hot.
  18. If the screw is that worn, the screw box is probably in as bad or worse shape and any real pressure will probably strip it out. Been there and done that when looking at a 4 in vise. The seller also said there was a lot of life in it so I asked if I could tighten it up. He said sure, I put about half as much torque on the handle as it would take to hold stock and sure enough it stripped out. Needless to say the seller was embarrassed and I declined to buy it.
  19. That's an interesting vise stand (very creative) and a good Craftsman bench vise, however the vise is not designed for heavy hammering on like a blacksmith leg vise is. Still a good addition to the shop though.
  20. That's the main reason I use and love the old hand crank blowers. Quiet and easy to control the air blast, stop cranking and the air stops after several coasting revolutions of the handle. I started with a relatively quiet Dayton electric blower but found it to be a chore to remember to shut the air gate or switch off the blower when using the hammer & anvil.
  21. Welcome to finally posting, I had around 30 years (on & off) in the forge, when I discovered IFI and I learn something new with about every visit here. I'm sure you have seen that we love pictures and my posts about reading the Read This First thread. That thread helped me in getting the best out of the forum with lots of tips.
  22. Welcome aboard... grab a cold drink and a sandwich and start reading the sticky's. If you haven't read it yet, the Read This First thread up in the blue banner will help in getting the best out of the forum with lots of tips.
