Yeah, it's the same here, low quality pics makes sense. I'm not the kind to hate people but I sure do hate some of the things some do. I wonder if it's possible to include something like a water mark in a image file so if someone tried to copy it it would include your name and contact info. Frosty The Lucky.
May 27, 20233 yr Cleaned her up and then put a brick and sand base underneath the stump now to reburn and start putting together old machine shop table I found. Not forging but its something.
May 28, 20233 yr Alexandr, yes, we are walking close to the edge of the forum rules but if there is anything I can do to assist you PM me. I'm sure that many others of the IFI family would do the same. George
May 28, 20233 yr I am working on a much bigger project that I will post about later, but here’s what started the day: to convert a big clevis pin (picked up last week at a scrap yard in Rhode Island) into a raising stake, I welded a collar of hex bar just below the head and ground it smooth. The bar was clamped down and the end welded in place: Then heated with the oxypropane torch and wrapped around the pin. After wrapping, before welding: After welding and grinding: Not sure if I will attach this to some other mounting or just use it in the vise, but that’s a question I can answer later.

May 29, 20233 yr My little sister and her boyfriend came over to the shop and each made a leaf. While I was working them through that i decided to forge a little 5 inch utility knife. My they had some fun and almost everyone remembered my shop rule #1; everything is hot. Anyway here's me and my sister at the end of the day...
May 29, 20233 yr Needed some stakes for my beans to grow up on so i grabbed a couple lenths of 1/2" round bar and knocked these out pretty quick. Not real pretty but quite functional.
May 29, 20233 yr beautiful work everybody, no pictures but made a few attempts at making a belt buckle great practice for getting even tapers, went fishing over the weekend also I passed my drivers test last week so I can drive without a supervisor now M.J.Lampert
May 29, 20233 yr Made trash cans for a country house. And as usual, garden supports occupied the entire area in front of the workshop.
May 29, 20233 yr BillyBones, I like how you incorporated the plant identifier as the stake decoration. MJ, congrats! Alexandr, trash is unworthy of those trash bins. Beautiful.
May 29, 20233 yr MJ congratulations on getting your drivers license. Learn how to make each trip have multiple stops in order to save gas.
May 29, 20233 yr Which is to say, combine multiple errands in a single trip. Finished blending the joints on the rails: And forged one end of each mounting bracket: Started forging the tapers at the other end, but realized I was getting tired and it was time to stop before I made something bad happen.
May 29, 20233 yr Wise decision John. I believe your customer is going to be very happy! Today, I got a vise/hardy hole bending jig done for a donation at our state conference this coming weekend. Just add a 1/2” socket the diameter you need and clamp it in the vise or set it in your anvils hardy hole: Our chapter donates a tools box and tools to the silent auction. Previous years I’ve made several hardies of different types, but my time has been limited this year. One of the guys in our chapter like the one of these that I made as a door prize for one of our chapter hammer-ins and recommended that I make one for the conference… so here it is. Probably won’t bring in as much funds as a few hardies, but is should stir up some conversation. Keep it fun, David
May 29, 20233 yr You know Chad, the only thing missing from that pic is you holding her ear with a pair of tongs. I love your bean stakes Billy, they have everything. Forged iron, practical use, artistic flair and IDs the crop. Perfect. Congratulations MJ! Be careful out there, the crazies are everywhere. Head on a swivel, eyes in constant motion, a habitual scan pattern is a good idea. This one stood us in good stead on the road maintenance crew, Give someone a choice and they'll make the wrong one. That means in a practical sense that if you see someone in what I call the strike zone close enough or in position to do something that might hit you or cause you to have to take evasive action. Assume that's exactly what they'll do. Trash cans Alex, TRASH CANS!? I'd yell at anybody who put trash in one of those! Well . . . MAYBE if it was clean attractive trash say carefully wadded paper. Looking good John and a good decision. It's important to know when to knock off for the day. That's a fine addition to the tool box prize David, any talented tool user will be delighted. I didn't take any pics today, I'll get some tomorrow. The club has brought up Wayne Potratz to hold a 2 day iron smelt in a tatara style bloomery. He held a class and we started assembling the tatara today. Tomorrow we fire it off, it'll start getting good around 4-5pm. I'll get some pics then. Yeah, I spent better than 5 hours on my feet and am going to take it easy for a while and see how the knee held up. Feels pretty good right now but no telling in a couple few hours. Frosty The Lucky.
May 29, 20233 yr Talk about a list of people to congratulate on their work! This will not be in any particular order, and I hope I don’t leave anyone’s work out. 1)MJ, congratulations on getting your license and achieving a step towards freedom, always remember that you have the rest of your life to get where you’re going and you’re responsible for everyone in your vehicle and the other people on the road 2) Alexander: I agree with Shaina, those are too nice to put trash in them. 3) Billy, I am always amazed how you look at something you need and create a blacksmith project that takes care of it 4) Goods: I really like that and will try to make one in the future 5) John: the rails are starting to come together and looking good
May 30, 20233 yr thanks everyone for the well wishes waiting on new tires so I can drive my own car (not supposed to have studs in May) and then I am truly freed (well except for the limits on an N license here link added if you want to see what I'm dealing with Get your N (icbc.com)) [inappropriate content removed] M.j.Lampert Edited May 30, 20233 yr by Mod34 Inappropriate content removed
June 1, 20233 yr Finished forging the mounting brackets for the stair rails and took everything over for a test-fit: A few problems identified, but the solutions should be fairly easy to implement. I’m quite pleased. I also made a pin to hold the roller block on the bender; I’ll take some pictures later and post them on my Hossfeld thread.
June 1, 20233 yr Looks good John. I do miss the shop full of tools for a background though. Frosty The Lucky.
June 2, 20233 yr Looks amazing john. Might be lucky and scored myself a band saw waiting to hear from my buddy. Ready to get my stand built to hold some improvised anvils slash tools I have collected and the only vise I have until I find a post vise. Hopefully light the forge this weekend for 1st time in a long time.
June 3, 20233 yr This is what the club did last Monday and Tuesday. It was a good couple days. I took more pics but the battery died and dumped a bunch taken earlier. Frosty The Lucky. Getting close to taking the steel stack off. Note home made wooden mallet on left. Clearing slag Expert Wayne Potratz, clearing problem slag Breaking the tatara down, exposing the bloom Cutting the bloom with an ax and sledge hammer. <shudder>
