  • Not done yet but this was cut from 4" plate. Horn was roughed with a O/A torch the finished with a 7" zircon flap disc. Feet cut separate and will be severely welded ;)

  • This is a 80# piece of drop from cutting a hole in a steel plate. No one said an anvil has to have the standard anvil shape.

140-lb pre-1910 Peter Wright. Aged, badly abused, and severely chipped, but no cracks or large chunks broken off. Stand fabbed from scrap angle, strap iron and some fresh 1" square tubing. Two "cutout

The weight marking is 1 - 0 - 23, so 135 lbs. How's the rebound?

I have the same one I payed £160 for it, but it depends on where you live some go up past £300 mark in some area's.

If you think of it as an investment on a tool that will last you a lifetime + then that isn't so much is it? As long as it has good rebound.

Looks to have many years of condensation rusting on the face, cost  $3 .15 a pound, not bad in your area.  Check rebound---with that face it may need to be a hammer test rather than the ball bearing test. Also check for the ring.  It should ring nicely, dull or missing ring on a Peter Wright means hidden trouble (if it hasn't been fastened down to kill the ring!)

If you will be using it, I'd advise yes if it passes the test.  Note that if it is for sale on an open forum it may sell *fast*.

That's not bad if it sounds good on the the rebound test I would go for it.

I just got my 2. Anvil i dont know the size but i think it is 130kg and i think it is cool that i never seen one like it

stake anvil.  I have one very similar only without the very extremely nice stand.   Mine had a very soft face---I hand filed it smoother.  How is yours?

So what does the ball bearing test show?

I was asking for the results of running the ball bearing test on his anvil.

Here is the anvil I'm using. A good friend let me borrow it. It's a rough and ugly 150lb Vulcan. Not much but I like it.

Nothing wrong with a Vulcan Anvil in good condition. I have a ~250lb Vulcan...it's a workhorse for most projects....I don't plan to weld grapnels or anchors on it (of any scale)...but it takes a hammering, gives good rebound, and conveniently enough - it's quiet. My Wilkinson  (Dudley/Queens Crossing) is great, but repeated hours of hammering coupled with exhaust fans gives me a headache!

It may have read differently than I meant it. I really like this anvil. I'd love if it were my own. I'm just saying that I don't have much in general.

No-no, I understand! I never thought I'd find anything to get going with, it takes time and money  (unfortunately) to collect the things you need in a reasonable time frame .  Keep at it and it'll come together ! :)

400 lb columbion, won't put a hammer to it until I get my hammer arm tuned.
